Carnival itinerary and time zones

Hi.  We're taking our first cruise that involves a time zone change.  

 

On the carnival.com itinerary for our cruise, it says we depart Bermuda at 3 pm.  Is that 3 pm Bermuda time (which is Atlantic DST), or 3pm ship's time (which is Eastern DST).

 

I had assumed it was ship's time, but then I saw the time on cruisemapper was the same.  So, now I'm just confused.

always go with ships time. and it helps to check your "Fun Times" for updates.

Thanks, I'm trying to figure out 3rd party excursions, and they would all be local time, so I'm trying to determine if the departure time listed in the itinerary is local also, or I need to convert to plan things out.

We went to Bermuda in October and stuck to the ships time.

Okay, some clarification here.  For MOST normal Caribbean cruises (not Panama canal, not Alaska), ship time will remain the same throughout, namely the time zone applicable during embarkation (let's say EST out of Mia in the winter).  That clock won't change onboard.  And all the information you receive (like when you need to be back to the ship on a port day) will be reflective of that original ship time.  As others have said, that may not coincide with local time in any individual port.  That said, the private tour operators do this every day and understand the conversion.  Any communication you have with them beforehand can clarify any differential between the two.  And it's always good to check with your tour operator during your tour.

 

Here's an important thing to remember.  Do not rely on your cellphone to be accurate with respect to ship time once you set foot ashore.  There is no substitute for a good wristwatch set to ship time during the week.

All of the cruises I went on it was always ship time no matter what time zone the ship happen to be in. Just check with what ever excursion you book with. And bring a watch and set for ship time.

You can adjust your cell phone settings to not automatically adjust the timezone and it will remain on the ships time even if you are in a port that is on a different timezone.

That is a very good question. When we did a 7 day cruise to Bermuda on the Pride the ship did adjust  to Atlantic time, (clocks moved forward one hour on the way there, and back one hour on the way back). I've read that the four day weekend cruises to Bermuda, or those cruises that have other port of calls in addition to Bermuda, do not change the clocks and stay on ship's time. 

So I've been absolutely no help to you, but we will be doing your exact same cruise in May on the Sunrise, so I will be able to give you a first hand account then.

Went to Bermuda on Carnival from Fort Lauderdale. Yes they changed the ships time an hour forward.
