Savaann618 Posted February 11, 2020 #1 Share Posted February 11, 2020 Hello friends! My family is leaving from NOLA for the first time (always has been NY before) and I have a few questions. I normally get seasick leaving from NY. How is the ride leaving port from NOLA? We have seen on several you tube videos that passengers were allowed to drop off carry on luggage to their cabins once boarding the ship before the rooms were ready. Is this normally allowed? Last question, I read that Margaritaville is free for lunch on boarding day. Can anyone confirm this for me? Thank you in advance for your help! Rare BirdTravels Posted February 11, 2020 #2 Share Posted February 11, 2020 Sounds like your in a Haven room? Even in the Haven, they request that you wait until your room is ready before dropping your bags. From NOLA, it is about 8 hours down the Mississippi before you get to the ocean. So you will have 8 hours of smooth sailing. Once you get to sea, it will depend on the weather. You will be escorted to the Haven lounge. Ask your concierge about lunch alternatives. If you are not in the Haven, no free lunch at Margaritaville.
Isabella Benjamin Posted February 11, 2020 #3 Share Posted February 11, 2020 The only time I've ever gotten seasick was going from New York to the Bahamas. I was sick the whole trip up and down the Atlantic. I've sailed out of New Orleans twice and never had a single problem, I think you'll be fine. DCP Posted February 11, 2020 #4 Share Posted February 11, 2020 NOLA is my favorite cruise port. 8 hours down the Mississippi, and then into the Gulf. The gulf is usually smooth sailing (NOT always though!) We love being able to see the oil rigs out in gulf too. It's cool to be on the Mississippi and look DOWN on some of the houses! (the river is higher than the land some of the houses are on!) We'll be boarding the Getaway soon, and I can't wait!
