Bustaty Posted February 6, 2006 #1 Share Posted February 6, 2006 Our ship docks at Sete and we are there from approximately 9 am to 8 pm. Members of our party have these requests. Some want to see the medieval village of Caracassone (sp) as we well as the famous Pont du Gard Aqua duct. Would this be possible to do in the time we have? Thank you
getfuzzyfan Posted February 6, 2006 #2 Share Posted February 6, 2006 Here is a website that you may find useful for planning side trips: www.mappy.com ... it gives driving directions for Europe and is quite detailed. You can choose an express route or a more leisurely route without going along the autoroute. Now having said this, I would choose either one or the other, not both as Carcassone is West of Sete and Pont du Gard is East basically. You'd be spending most of your time travelling. If you go to Pont du Gard you are near Avignon so you could also visit Le Palais du Pape in that walled city. Pont du Gard is not visible from the roads so you have to actually go into the park to see it. Beautiful area though with many small villages. I have a feeling that Carcassone on its own is a full day affair.

getfuzzyfan Posted February 7, 2006 #4 Share Posted February 7, 2006 Bustaty ... I realize you didn't ask for these but I thought you might like these links for Carcassone, Avignon and Pont du Gard. http://www.carcassonneinfo.com/ http://www.ot-avignon.fr/index2.htm http://www.pontdugard.fr/index.php?langue=GB Using Yahoo France is helpful to find more detailed information on that country. http://fr.dir.yahoo.com/Exploration_geographique/Pays/France/Villes/ At this link you can click on the first letter of any town you want to follow-up on, at that town click on "Tourisme" or "Tourisme et Transport" and the next screen should show you a link to the town's tourism office. ClaudiaF Posted February 7, 2006 #5 Share Posted February 7, 2006 Both are about 2 hours from Sete so keep that in mind . While seeing Pont du Gard is magnificent i think that the ride is very long from Sete just to see it, I would opt for carcassone which does need a full day ;-) ..it is wonderful. Also, the pretty town of Sete is nice too.
