VideoTech Posted February 24, 2020 #2 Share Posted February 24, 2020 If you purchase OBC, then it's basically your money, in your account to spend as you please. If you are *given* OBC by NCL you cannot use that money for casino charges. However: There is a 3% casino fee each time you charge money against your cabin cabin account, so I would not recommend using your purchased OBC for this purpose - you're basically giving up 3% of your money each time, for the convenience of them holding your money for you. Just bring that same amount in cash for use in the casino. Note that the 3% fee is waved for CAS Sapphire and higher members.
Nola26 Posted February 24, 2020 #3 Share Posted February 24, 2020 I think NCL limits the amount of OBC you can purchase, so too much may not be an extreme risk. 3% comment is spot on, you'll be giving your cash to NCL. However, that's $3 if you pull $100 over the course of the cruise. If the convenience is worth $3 for you, then use the feature if you're not carrying cash and want to play. I do this from time to time if we want to play but I'm not carrying any cash at the time. I might only pull $20 for the momentary fun and I keep my fees in the single digits, but I've set boundaries and have gotten over the angst of spending $3 for the fun. jskinsd Posted February 24, 2020 #4 Share Posted February 24, 2020 I do not understand why you need to purchase OBC prior to your cruise. Are there advantages or extra perks you receive? I am always looking to cut costs on my cruises. I have been on over 50 NCL cruises and have never considered buying OBC but when on my cruise always purchase Cruise Next certificates. ✌️

You can also set up a line of credit with the casino or even send "front money" if you are looking to budget https://www.ncl.com/credit
