After CDC warned all U.S. citizens over 60 and those of any age  who have health issues not to cruise, the State Department went a step further and formally advised that all U.S. citizens "should not travel by cruise ship." It also added a not-so-veiled warning that anyone who chooses to cruise despite that advice shouldn't count on any more U.S. evacuation flights if their ship is quarantined or re-routed.

Here's the key sentence, from the full statement.

"While the U.S. government has evacuated some cruise ship passengers in recent weeks, repatriation flights should not be relied upon as an option for U.S. citizens under the potential risk of quarantine by local authorities."

The reality is you shouldn't expect your country to repatriate you, you should buy travel insurance anyway.

Mixed messages from the government after they said yesterday that Cruising Is OK If You Are Healthy!
