Hampshire Steve Posted April 8, 2020 #1 Share Posted April 8, 2020 I have always been a bit on the shy side when looking at charities and usually my only regular donation has been to the RNLI as I am always amazed that they go out to save us in seas I would not consider safe even in a larger ship. However I have noticed that our local Food Banks are requesting donations due to unprecedented demand on them, so tomorrow I have a boot load of goodies to take to one of our local ones and have also raided our stock at work for those much sought after loo rolls and disposable gloves. I realise that many here will be a bit short as well but If you can spare a few things I am certain these centers will be grateful for your contributions and perhaps voluntary assistance if you can. Stay safe everyone. Steve

They can only take non perishables, even bread etc needs to have 3 days clear sell by date. We should all do what we can if we can. Andy
Hampshire Steve Posted April 8, 2020 Author #3 Share Posted April 8, 2020 Copied off one of the Southampton banks - To give you an idea of what kind of foods are good to donate, please look through the list below. When selecting items to donate, please buy smaller portion bags rather than bulk-buy items, as we give out food based on meal portions. Stewed Steak Ravioli Irish Stew Minced Beef Spaghetti Bolognese Chilli Con Carne Chicken in White Sauce Meatballs Macaroni Cheese Curries Baked Beans with Sausages Spaghetti Hoops Tinned Fish Sweet Corn Hot Chocolate Soups (particularly chunky) Other Misc. Veg Tinned UHT Milk Cereal (especially Weetabix) Flour Baked Beans Sugar Potatoes (tinned or packets) Treats (chocolate, crisps, etc) Conserves Tomatoes Pasta Sauce Rice Pudding Custard Noodles (packets) Tinned Fruit Pasta Squash Vegetarian Foods Rice Sanitary Products Peas Tea Toiletries Carrots Coffee Carrier Bags

We were trying to donate lots of bacon/sausages and bread etc, the contents of our works cafe, but they couldn't take them, I think refrigeration was the issue. They went to good causes anyway.
