Free cruise voucher/ canceled cruise

Does anyone know how FCC or refund works with canceled cruises when using a voucher? Have a cruise that departs May 31st and guessing it will get canned. Just was curious if anyone has been in same situation yet.

In my case,  FCC and "bonus" 25% showed up as separate items in MyNCL a few days after cancellation.  When you make a payment for a new cruise, you can pull up these items.

If it was a voucher issued through a land based casino, there have been a few different experiences reported on the Boards. Mine was to permit use of the voucher on the same itinerary a year after the cruise that was cancelled, permitting use of the 100% FCC that was issued with the cancellation, but not use of the $25% FCC (still banked for another cruise).

Your FCC and 25% is based on what you actually paid out of pocket.  The amount listed on your confirmation is what you will get on a passenger by passenger basis.

My experience with casinos at sea using a land based casino certificate was a little different.  I used my FCC on a new itinerary for next year and applied the additional amount to upgrade to balcony from Oceanview . (I received $125% FCC )   I was cruising out of New Orleans and am now cruising out of Miami.  Both were Carribean itineraries and were included in my original certificate as options.  Our friends called NCL back a few days after booking when they heard what I did and they also applied the 25% towards their balcony upgrade.

Hi L8 - I have a question please...  what is the basis of the 25% additional FCC??  With CAS land-based certificate we don't pay the "cruise fare" just an admin fee and the port & govt taxes.  I understand that we get that all back in the FCC but was wondering how they figure out the additional 25%.  Thanks for sharing your experience re: using it for an upgrade vs. a completely separate cruise as others have posted 🙂

Say for example your total payment out of pocket is $500 - which is the port fees and the administration fees. If YOU cancel your cruise with piece of mind you get $500 FCC.   If THEY cancelled your cruise you would get $625 FCC.  You can still use your land-based certificate as long as it is comparable to the original offer.   The catch is that next year they have different ships going to different ports.   For example I was originally booked on TheGetaway to the Carribbean.  The Getaway is not going there next year so now I am booked on The Encore.  They honored the route and not necessarily the ship.  So in my case- the port fees and administration fees were similar since I was going to the same ports next year.   That left around $130 in FCC leftover.   To upgrade to balcony from oceanview through CAS the difference was $125 pp.

Just adding, if you used a Cruise Next deposit to pay for your Port Taxes/Admin Fees, many of us have found it takes quite a while to get that back on our account.  They assure us that they will be returned for re-use, but some of us have waited several weeks now.   

On the positive side, the CAS agents are (usually) super friendly and will work with you to hold a cruise with your FCC while you are waiting for the CN deposits to be available to use.

I have twice had my Cruise Next deposits reappear in my My NCL account within one week of cruise cancellation.

Was yours a comped cruise?   If so, I'm pretty jealous right now😉

 

My 'out of pocket' cruise costs of admin fee & port fees for two of us are almost totally covered by two Cruise Next deposits.  Seems to give their CN refund department trouble.  (On another thread, there have been several others on CAS comps who have waited several weeks for them to be returned to our accounts.)
