Trying to book using future cruise credit due to corona virus

Recommended Posts

We are trying to book a new cruise using a future cruise credit with Holland America.  This credit includes the cost of the cancelled cruise as well as the Hotel and Airfare which were all booked through Holland America.  We are trying to book a cruise through Holland America for next spring but the representative is telling us that the credit can only be used toward future cruises and not for hotel and airfare, even though the refund amount includes the cost of the hotel and airfare.  This would mean that it would be necessary to book two cruise to use the full credit. Is anyone else having this issue.

That's why it's called "future CRUISE credit." Among other reasons, the cruise line may not be able to find new hotel and air for the same or similar cost you originally invested (nor should they bear that responsibility).

As for it being "necessary" to book two cruises, why? For the value of your FCC, you can pick a better cabin level, a longer cruise, etc.

Quick clarifying question.  Did you cancel the cruise under the short term cancellation policy or did Holland cancel your cruise.

If Holland cancelled the cruise, you should receive your port taxes and fees and any non-cruise purchases returned to the original form of payment.  This includes air and pre/post cruise hotels.

If you cancelled the cruise, different terms apply.  You should still receive the non-cruise and taxes refunded, but the air will be treated differently depending on if the air was restricted or flexible.

If you did not use a TA on the previous booking, it may be a good idea to get one now.  They will be apply to view and apply your FCC.  Also note, you will need to pay the deposit and that will go towards the taxes and fees as those may not be covered by the FCC.  Again a TA will have all this info at their fingertips.
