Victoria: Best Shops & Pubs

We are thinking of heading up Government to the Wharf area and exploring

the shops and pubs around here. We also will probably check out "Old China Town". Would like some input on the most interesting shops and pubs to look for here. Is there a cigar shop nearby? Any input would be appreciated. Thanks!

There are several shops around Government Street selling cigars. Popular

other shops are Rogers Chocolates and Bernard Callabaut Chocolates, as

well as several clothing stores featuring British goods. The Bay department

store has good selection. There are also any number of touristy souvenir

places plus some good art galleries and chinaware stores. There is an

Irish Times pub and several other good ones in the area. Chinatown is

only a few blocks further on and is very interesting. Near Chinatown is

Capital Iron - the basement here is the place to visit. A very eclectic

collection of marine memorabilia. How much you can see depends on how

long your ship is in port.

Hi there,

When you go to Chinatown, check out 'the never ending store' Its on Fisgard (the main china town street, where the gate of harmonious interest is) and I think it might officially be called 'the chinese trading company', but I'm not sure, as everyone knows it as 'the never ending store'... Ask anyone walking around and they'll be able to point it out to you....

On Government Street there are a lot of the more 'touristy' shops, and also a lovely bookstore called Munro's, founded by Jim Munro, the ex husband of author Alice Munro...Its one of the larger, flourishing independant bookstores in Victoria...

If you have any other questions, I should be able to help out with them, I've lived in Victoria almost all my life, and it will be nice to get back there in the summer! (I'm in university in Toronto right now)

Have a great cruise!

Dani

If you're in Chinatown, don't miss FanTan Alley. It's the narrowest alley in North America, and is very cool. While you're walking on Fisgard, look for a red heritage street sign that points to it. Literally, don't miss it!! :)

Trounce Alley is another neat little find. It's next to the Eaton Center downtown. Access it from Government Street.
