FCC’s and ATOL protection

Interesting announcement from the CAA yesterday that ATOL protection will be extended to ‘Refund Vouchers’ issued from March 10th to September 30th, valid to September 30th 2021. ATOL protection only applies for ‘package holidays’ I.e. for an SS cruise it would have to include flights etc.

More to the point does an SS FCC qualify as a ‘Refund Voucher’?

It would helpful if SS made an announcement for their UK customers to clarify.

You made me look it up. 🙂

ATOL (which stands for Air Travel Organiser’s Licence) is a UK financial protection scheme and it protects most air package holidays sold by travel businesses that are based in the UK.

Apologies, CAA is the Civil Aviation Authority which administers ATOL.

If the passengers were issued with an ATOL certificate (effectively an APC receipt for £2:50 per person then the booking qualifies.  If not then it implies the APC wasn't paid.  The certificate is numbered and is a receipt.

If the FCC refers to the original ATOL certificate AND offers the right to change the mind in future and take the refund then protection applies.  If the passenger revokes the right to a refund when taking the FCC and the right to a refund lapsed on taking the FCC then there is no protection.

To the best of my knowledge .. but those interested should check.
