flagger Posted February 9, 2006 #1 Share Posted February 9, 2006 For those who fly in, do you fly into MIA or FLL for a Miami cruise and why? Cost, more convenient schedules, less hectic airport, share your tips? How many of you fly out the day AFTER a cruise to avoid the crush on Monday or Sunday? suzeyQ Posted February 9, 2006 #2 Share Posted February 9, 2006 We've always flown into Miami, simply because it's closer to the port.
FitzLA Posted February 9, 2006 #3 Share Posted February 9, 2006 Actually, from Los Angeles it was $100 cheaper per person to fly into FLL. But we still chose Miami just for the convenience factor.
Dockman123 Posted February 9, 2006 #4 Share Posted February 9, 2006 It depends on the difference in price. If the cost is comparable we would go direct to Miami. If the cost is more then $100 different then we would probably go to FLL.
k/teach Posted February 9, 2006 #5 Share Posted February 9, 2006 It all depends on price. We are flying into Ft. Lauderdale this time because we were able to use our air miles for one of the tickets. We have only been to Miami once and this time we will have the chance to see another city.
shanebbb Posted February 10, 2006 #6 Share Posted February 10, 2006 MIA hands down. Due to the last minute booling on Radiance last week we flew into MIA and out of FLL. FLL was a mess. It was swarming with cranky travelers, unclean, the employees were unfriendly and things were out of control. They told me it's like that every weekend! A bad ending to a terrific week aboard the Radiance.
RickT Posted February 10, 2006 #7 Share Posted February 10, 2006 Although I'm not fond of the the FLL airport, the flights there are cheaper (for me) and there are also direct flights from where I live. Combine the two and it's not a tough decision.
SuzieTrue Posted February 10, 2006 #8 Share Posted February 10, 2006 First cruise we booked air through the cruiseline. We went in/out of FLL. The flights were ok, ground transport through line was not. :( This time I booked air separately. FLL was cheaper and we had more flights to choose from. flagger Posted February 10, 2006 Author #9 Share Posted February 10, 2006 I thought I had read that flying in and out of MIA was just a nightmare and FLL was far more enjoyable.
Cruising89143 Posted February 10, 2006 #10 Share Posted February 10, 2006 I fly into Miami and have found the airport to be less congested than FLL. That has been my experience anyway. You have more than two or three ships in FLL and it is a nightmare trying to get through security.
LindaandJeff Posted February 10, 2006 #11 Share Posted February 10, 2006 We're using FLL because there are more choices and the fare was cheaper. Our son lives in South Beach and he always lives home out of FLL. He says it is simply more convenient because of the flight schedules.
elleluv Posted February 10, 2006 #12 Share Posted February 10, 2006 Unfortunately..... with Alaska Air our only two options in Florida are Miami or Orlando....
FlyingPhotog Posted February 10, 2006 #13 Share Posted February 10, 2006 We flew into FLL, rented a car from Alamo for like $35 and drove to Miami where we stayed the night. The next morning we took the car to Alamo's location at Miami airport and they shuttled us to the port for free. When we returned we purchased bus transfer tickets from RCCL the day before we got off the ship. This also lets you be in the first departure group if you have an early flight. We were able to make a 10:30am flight with an hour to spare.
