Nana - Atlantic - September 1

Nana is expected to head west and get stronger.  This kind of storm brings a lot of rain and flooding to Central America.  Belize is in the path, with cruise ports harvet Caye, Belize City (with a new port under construction) and Costa Maya is pretty far south in Mexico and could be affected.

Curious.  The intensity models do not generally show hurricane strength, and most of the model paths show landfall more south on Nicaragua and Honduras.

 

The HNC seems to be favoring one model and reading the tea leaves for more favorable conditions than the models see.

Here's a google map of the position forecast 40 miles before landfall. It's right around Belize City.

 

The bottom of the map is where Placencia and Harvest Cay port are located, and the top of the map is where Mahahual and Costa Maya port are located. Open the image or scroll to see the full distances.  I am worried for the national park islands and Ambergris Caye, the diver's paradise.

Old News but could not update this morning due to CC outage... "Nana is up to 60 mph winds and likely to be a hurricane by tonight (74 mph)."

 

New news: now forecast to remain a tropical storm.  Belize City still close to the center line. Hurricane watch remains as the winds are at 60 mph and will be so close to 74 mph it could still make it.

New analysis of track shows it has shifted south.  So Belize City in the top part of the cone area and Harvest Caye/Placencia is south of the centerline but in more danger than it was yesterday.

oh and it did make Hurricane status - barely - at 75 mph at landfall.
