Taormina taxis

What is the best way to get from the dock in Taormina into the town. Are taxis available and what is the cost?

Depends if the ship actually docks for tender in Taormina. From other replies on boards it seems Oceania sometimes docks in Messina, and then you have to get from Messina to Taormina. It's about an hour and a half away by rail or car apparently.

Right, I recall that the ship docked in Messina's port, you need to drive to get to the town of Taormina as it is not on the water. I suppose the ship puts that on the tinerary so you know what to see.. like when they say Rome Italy, there 's no dock for that ship in the city of Rome, have to dock in Citavecchia.. in any event.. from Messina there are lots of taxis at dock There was a taxi "boss" ( rather apropos, huh?) you told him if you wanted the car for day or whatever, he negotiated the fare with you and directed you to your car. The driver dropped us off at the town of Taormina and collected us at the aranged time, and then we had a tour of the city- views of Etna etc.
