tstruth Posted February 11, 2006 #1 Share Posted February 11, 2006 My family and I are Going on our first cruise in April. Thought it would be a good idea to have the kids bring their walkie talkies, they work great at home, they go a couple of miles. Does anyone know if they work well on board? Thanks for any input;)
flamingo21401 Posted February 11, 2006 #2 Share Posted February 11, 2006 Hi there, We have tried walkie talkies on board. I kept forgetting to turn it on and then when I did I found out that others were on the same channelor I happened to be in the pool when someone called. They are a great way to keep in touch but they got to be a bother for us. Have a great time cruising. laura
scootepie66 Posted February 11, 2006 #3 Share Posted February 11, 2006 We took our walkie talkies when we took our son and his friend and only used them if we changed our preassigned meeting place/time. They worked great and was nice to know if they needed to get a hold of us they could, most of the time we never heard from them.
lougee1043 Posted February 11, 2006 #4 Share Posted February 11, 2006 they work fine on board except for the occassional dead spot -- really good when you are in port and people go their seperate ways
kitty9 Posted February 11, 2006 #5 Share Posted February 11, 2006 Please remember your etiquette when using those things. They can be a real pain when you have literally dozens of people screaming into those things at all hours. Keep your conversations short, and use them only for quick communications. NEVER, EVER use them in the dining room, bars or show lounges. I cannot tell you how many times we've been completely disturbed by parents and kids using those silly things in the dining room and during shows in the evening. No one wants to hear "where are you---we're going to the buffet---hey, we're sitting by the pool---how much did you spend in the casino" and other such unnecessary conversations. tstruth Posted February 11, 2006 Author #6 Share Posted February 11, 2006 Thanks all, I guess we will bring them (better to have than to wish we had). And yes Kitty I do agree, One does need to be courteous.:)
NYCRUISR Posted February 12, 2006 #7 Share Posted February 12, 2006 We use a multi channel model ( many people are using them ) and we pre select our channel for use but if for some reason it is choked up with activity, we have a pre-selected alternate channel to use. Works for us. And true........ have some consideration when using them is places where the squawk would be annoying to others.
