Information needed for passports?

This will be our first cruise. We plan to go on the RC western caribbean in Jan. 2007. My question is what type of information do we need to get the passport and how far in advance should we get them? I will be getting them for 2 adults and 2 children ages 13 and 10.

Get them as soon as possible. They last 10 years for adults and 5 years for kids. Getting them can take anywhere from 2 weeks to 10 weeks. The sooner you apply for them, the more time you have to correct any problems (for example, some people have found out only when they went to apply for passports that the birth certificates they used for years were invalid). Also, since passports will soon be required for everybody there is a high likelihood that it will start to take even longer to get one AND that the price will go up.

What do you need? You will need certified birth certificates plus passport photos. This website lists everything you need and has the application that you will need to take with you when you apply for the passport. http://travel.state.gov/passport/passport_1738.html
