No excursion...

If I don't book an excursion in Belize...what is there for us to do with a 9 year old?

This is still an excursion but it is my understanding that Bannister Island has a nice children's play area and there are other things to do as well. Know that Carnival offers this excursion as well as Coral Breeze.

Next to nothing if you do not book a ship or private tour. There is shopping near the pier, but that would not interest a 9 year old. You could take a water taxi to Caulker Cay, but I would suggest cave tubing, if you think he is old enough, or a trip to the Belize Zoo or the Baboon Sanctuary. You can join a tour to one of these places at the pier if you do not want to go on a ship excursion.
