cruzcupl Posted May 3, 2004 #1 Share Posted May 3, 2004 Hi to all, We just booked yesterday for Jan.23/05 (planning ahead ha!ha!). Got two rooms on the verandah deck. Is this a good spot on the ship (noise, traffic etc..) Lastly we're flying in from Ottawa, Canada the day before and landing at houston intl. How far is this from port in Galveston and what is our best bet for getting there. (car rental ?) Oh yeah, where should we stay in Galveston precruise. yst347 Posted May 3, 2004 #2 Share Posted May 3, 2004 The Verandah deck on Fantasy class ships are a deck above the lido in the front of the ship. This is a very quiet deck. I think you will love it. The port of Galveston is an 80 minute drive from IAH. You can use Carnival transfers, private shuttles, taxis or limos it all depends on how many are in your party as to what is best. blyle Posted May 4, 2004 #3 Share Posted May 4, 2004 We just returned from Elation and had a cabin on verandah. We loved it but you need to know that there are a few that have the lifeboats obstucting their view. Be sure your cabin is ok. I think it is mostly the high numbers. travel girl23 Posted May 4, 2004 #4 Share Posted May 4, 2004 We sailed the Elation over Thanksgiving and had room V36 on the Verandah Deck. It was an inside room and we liked it very much. It is quiet and, best of all, go down the hall and you're out on the observation deck - my husband's favorite spot!! We did notice, however, as mentioned before, that the suites across the hall from us had a wonderful view of the orange life boats. airdale Posted May 4, 2004 #5 Share Posted May 4, 2004 We just returned from the Elation this last Sunday and had the verandah deck suite V3 at the very front of the ship. It is above the lido deck, deck 10, but far enough forward where the crowd and music noise was not noticeable and under the gym area of the spa on deck 12. The spa is open from 5 AM to 8 PM and I could hear the weights from the machines at times, but they were not obtrusive or that noticeable. You do get bit more swaying being up that high and at the front of the ship which did not bother the wife...or myself, and I being an old Navy man LOVED every minute of it. It was like rocking in my momma's arms. As was said...some of the cabins have lifeboats obstructing your view so watch which one you reserve. If you want privacy for sunbathing then you should look into the category 12 suites because you are visible when sitting out there on your verandah in the category 11. There is also an observation deck at the very front of the ship on deck 11 which people can go to watch the stars. It is VERY windy up there on the observation deck and your verandah has panels between the cabins and that affords some protection from the wind when not in port and YOU have chairs in which to sit and those on the observation deck do not. This was our first cruise and I opted for having a verandah. During the cruise the wife and I were able to see some inside cabins and they looked great also. The next time we might op of one of those and save some money. The skippers club was great. After the security check in...you were directed to the skipper's club area and were personally checked in and then escorted to a waiting area off to the side and were the first ones allowed to board. So that feature I will miss if we book other than a suite the next time. Yes there WILL be a next time. The wife has declared that already. Hope that helps. Until the Elation sails ! cruz'n ag Posted May 5, 2004 #7 Share Posted May 5, 2004 I booked our honeymoon cruise on the Elation for July 25. After reading this, I did some searching and sure enough, we booked one of the rooms with the obstructed view. I was wondering if the view is totally or partially obstructed? Would we be better off downgrading to a different cabin? The obstructed view cabins are the only ones still availabe. Thanks. airdale Posted May 7, 2004 #9 Share Posted May 7, 2004 clancunningham, it was a great cruise and Bonnie wants to return to the seas as soon as possible. Glad you and your family returned home safe and sound. It was very nice to meet you and your family. Great kids! It was really wonderful being able to put faces to the CC postings. We spent over 3 hours in a construction traffic jam that Sunday South of Dallas. But we made it home safely. I sent you a test email to make sure I added it correctly into my address book. I have 9 rolls of photos from my 35mm and one roll of underwater photos to get developed. So after developing I will scan some and send them your way. Elation - April 2004
bethee Posted May 7, 2004 #10 Share Posted May 7, 2004 We have stayed in an inside on Verandah and it was very nice. Our daughter and hubby stayed in a suite toward the rear and the weight room was over them and they got the early morning wakeup when the lifters would drop the weights. blyle Posted May 7, 2004 #11 Share Posted May 7, 2004 Basically there is a life boat on your level right in front of your cabin. For the difference in price you may be better off on another deck. The cabin itself is the same exact size as the regular oceanview but it has a small balcony. The balcony is not directly over the water. YOu have to look out to see the water. If you look down you see the deck. There is a walking deck right underneath and extending out from your balcony. The passengers just look up and see you on your balcony. Basicallly your balcony is not directly over the water but over a deck. You can actually speak to those walking by. If you were expecting the normal type of balcony that is private you need to upgrade to Cat 12. They are totally private and overlook the water.
