PCR Testing

I have read that most CC cruisers are getting their PCR test on Friday and waiting 24 to 48 hours in most cases to get results.  Can you get an RPCR test, which is a "Rapid PCR" test,  if you take it in the morning you get the results that afternoon?  Can someone let us know?

Thanks,

Dennis & Pam

Yes, and that's what we will be doing. They're called "RT-PCR" tests and you get to pay for the guaranteed service level. $300 for 8 hour turnaround in our area.

This is typically offered by specialized testing labs who perform the sample analysis onsite.

Yes.  We were told that a PCR test is valid, if it is processed by a outsourced lab which might take 24 to 96 hours, or processed on-site by the lab of the facility that is taking the nasal swab.  And yes, the prices for the rapid tests can be quite high.

Unfortunately, the word "rapid test" has also been used to refer to the other kind of COVID tests that are not valid for getting to Bermuda.  So you have to be careful.

If the test has PCR in the name you will be fine. A RT-PCR test means reverse transcription PCR, not "rapid test" PCR. Stay away from rapid antigen tests, they are lateral flow immunoassay tests and NOT PCR.

We are using covidtestingllc.com which has 5 locations in Orlando and offers same day results.  $195  for the rapid PCR test and $155 for results by midnight .  We will get the rapid test on Friday and if something goes wrong will repeat on Sat.  They are open Sunday in one location but don't think you can get same day results then.
