Rare dcl999 Posted July 4, 2021 #1 Share Posted July 4, 2021 What coverage is available if you are not sick? 1. Positive test before your flight 2. Arrive at destination but positive test before boarding cruise and quarantine required 3. Midway through cruise test positive and (a) ship requires cabin confinement or (b) ship drops you in next port for quarantine 4. Test positive so can't return to the US and have to quarantine In the past we've relied on the coverage through the Chase Sapphire card, GeoBlue Trekker and MedJet. It looks like we might need something else now but not sure which provisions cover the above scenarios.

Rare dcl999 Posted July 5, 2021 Author #3 Share Posted July 5, 2021 Chase sapphire covers prepaid costs that aren't reimbursed or given a credit. They also provide an additional $250 for transportation if you're not at the end of your trip. There is no coverage for lodging or increased air. I just read that GeoBlue trekker covers COVID medical costs but not evacuation and MedJet does not cover COVID transportation except in US and from Mexico or Canada. We are willing to do some self insure but also wonder about cost/benefit of an additional policy
DUTRAVEL Posted July 5, 2021 #4 Share Posted July 5, 2021 What cruise line are you taking? Check the cruise line website for information on what might happen if you test positive for COVID. For example, here is what happens on a Celebrity cruise: COVID-19 Assistance Book a Celebrity cruise that’s sailing on or before October 31, 2021 and you’ll have the following reassurance at no extra charge: 100% cruise fare refund for you, and your Traveling Party, if any of you tests positive for COVID-19 within 14 days prior to the cruise or at the boarding terminal.* Pro-rated cruise fare refund for anyone who has their cruise cut short due to testing positive for COVID-19 or being suspected of having COVID-19 during the cruise. If you test positive for COVID-19 during the cruise, Celebrity Cruises will cover the costs of COVID-19 related medical treatment onboard, any required land-based quarantine, and travel home for you and your Traveling Party. Rare dcl999 Posted July 6, 2021 Author #5 Share Posted July 6, 2021 Viking. FAQ "If the second test confirms COVID-19, we will arrange for the guest to recover ashore before returning home once their recovery is complete. Upon their return home, Viking Customer Relations will contact the guest and their travel advisor directly regarding any necessary refunding or rescheduling." Their travel protection plan covers the costs. You have to buy the plan 120 days prior to the cruise or on the day you make your first deposit if less than 120 days. Until Covid we have had better coverage with other plans.
Babr Posted July 15, 2021 #6 Share Posted July 15, 2021 Does the Trip Interruption provision, which pays up to 150% of trip cost if you have to end your trip early, apply in this situation? I think it is intended to reimburse you for days lost and extra expenses to get home. Can it be used to pay for quarantine expenses after a positive test if you are not sick or do not have symptoms? I expect the medical portion to pay when you are actually sick or seek treatment, but we have already seen examples of people who tested positive without symptoms but were removed from the ship nevertheless. How do you insure that after the cruise line assistance plans expire?

Here’s an excerpt: « As of July 12, 2021, Medjet is now transporting members hospitalized with Covid-19, while traveling GLOBALLY (as well as domestically), to a hospital of their choice at home. This expanded benefit is at no additional cost to our members, and is applicable to both existing and new MedjetAssist and MedjetHorizon memberships. » Edited July 25, 2021 by JaneStarr
