littlelizzy2 Posted July 31, 2021 #1 Share Posted July 31, 2021 Hi everyone! My hubby and I are on the QM2 for the May 8 crossing. We arrive in Southampton on the Celebrity Silhouette on May 7 and are looking for recommendations for place to stay for one night. The Pig In The Wall looks interesting. Anyone stayed there? Any recommendations appreciated. Our first Cunard crossing. Checking one more thing off our bucket list. Beth and Rex Weddle
Rare Harters Posted August 1, 2021 #2 Share Posted August 1, 2021 I'm actually considering their hotel in the New Forest for a night's stay pre-cruise. If the "Wall" is as good as that, then you should be on a winner
turnip eater Posted August 1, 2021 #3 Share Posted August 1, 2021 In the ‘summer’ (don’t know exact dates), they would take guests from the Pig in the wall to the Pig in Brockenhurst in the New Forest for dinner. Don’t know if they still do it .
thesailor Posted August 7, 2021 #4 Share Posted August 7, 2021 Premier inn....decent rooms and price usually and quite close to the dock and train station, great for one nighters. thesailor
Rare John Bull Posted August 8, 2021 #5 Share Posted August 8, 2021 Celebrity will almost certainly dock at City Cruise Terminal. Cunard normally sail out of both Ocean Cruise Terminal and QE11 Terminal - the port website won't say which for your cruise until around New Year. City and/or Ocean are walkable from some hotels, but you should take a taxi to QE11 Terminal because it's deep into the docks & much of the dock footpath is separated from busy truck traffic by only a yellow-painted line. All the following hotels are convenient to City & Ocean Terminals, and easy walking to city centre malls (eg West Quay Mall & restaurant complex) & shopping streets (eg Above Bar Street), and the city's few old town sights (eg Tudor Merchant's House) & pubs (eg Duke of Wellington & Dancing Man) Holiday Inn (Herbert Walker Avenue). Popular with cruisers, rooms at rear overlook City Terminal Premier Inn West Quay. One of Premier Inn's best, also popular with cruisers. Moxy. Quirky, more popular with the young set. Leonardo Royal. Imposing, wide selection of room standards Pig-in-the-Wall. Unique, quirky & homely boutique, set in the city's wall & right by old-town sights, Ennio's. Italian restaurant with rooms above, boutique in converted 19thC waterfront warehouse Alternatively if you wanted to drop your bags & take a direct train to Salisbury 30 minutes (& hop-on bus from there to Stonehenge) or Bath 90 minutes or Winchester 10 minutes or Portsmouth&Southsea 60 minutes (many sights, the main one being the Historic Dockyard & Ships), the following are more convenient for Southampton central station : Novotel. 4-star hotel with pool etc. Ibis. Ibis Budget (very basic) All the hotels I've mentioned are modern, except Pig-in-the-Wall & Ennio's. They vary between very acceptable & excellent, but hotels out on the city boundary or in the countryside wouldn't suit your limited time-scale unless you rented a car. (But if Pig-in-the-Wall takes guests to their sister Pig in the New Forest as mentioned by the Turnip Eater I'd jump at it 😋) Useful thumbnail map of city centre hotels, cruise terminals, & train/bus stations at the foot of https://www.londontoolkit.com/travel/southampton_accommodation.htm (if you're spending time in London, scroll other pages of that website for excellent logistical London information) Note to Turnip Eater. Devon ? Weren't you in Dorset ? Life in Dorset now too fast for you?😛 JB 🙂

Time to downsize and husband always wanted to see Devon, so we came to visit and saw a place and moved here to the South Hams, near Totnes. Will miss the 45minute journey to the Cruise terminal. Next time we’re staying at Carey’s Manor Brockenhurst. You can leave your car and taxi to and from the Cruise terminal is included in the cost. 2 hours ago, John Bull said:
