It's my pleasure to tell you about Hotel El Consulado at Ashford # 1110

Condado, San Juan puerto Rico. The staff is extremely friendly and checking

in is a breeze. They have a tasty continental fare served complimentary

until 10AM. The Rooms are tiled and spacious. Everything is extremely

clean. There are 29 rooms so plan in advance and you'll be delighted.

The phone number is 787-289-9191. You may also inquire by e mail at

suzette@ihppr.com. They will be more than happy to confirm your reservation

by e mail. The cab ride to the cruise dock will be less than 10 minutes and

will cost about $12.00. This one is a gem

Less than one block from El Consulado you will find La Dorada Restaurant.

They serve very delicious Puerto Rician food. If you like spicy you can

add your own. It is not served spicy. We had chicken and rice on a lunch

special. It very tasty and we brought back what we could not finish. Our

lunch check was $12.00 for the two of us. I had reheated chicken and

rice for dinner and still could not finish the leftovers.

Bejamin & Jason,

The taxi to the ship took less than 10 minutes and cost $12.00. We paid under $110. I would suggest e mail to get your rate. e mail: suzette@ihppr.com. One other thing I forgot to mention is that this

hotel was at one time the Spanish Embassy in Puerto Rico. Jason, they

have a lot of tour information at the check in. We were thinking about

tours too but didn't do any.

Dave: is the Consulado hotel near Old San Juan? We like to be located in that area, so we can just walk to some of the attractions.

I am thinking about next Jan. Would rates be somewhat higher then? ($110)?

Gracecarmo, We completed our cruise yesterday and are at the hotel now.

Old San Juan is about 5 to 10 minutes by cab. The airport is about 20

minutes by cab at a cost of about $15.00. I forgot to mention there is a

circular drive in front of the hotel so the cab can get reasonably close to

the door. There is also a patio off the lobby so you can enjoy your orange

juice or coffee or both outdoors. It's quite private because it's below street

level and there's a lot of tall green plants.

NOTE: El Canario by the Sea. If you see this hotel advertised, there is no

driveway in fromt of the hotel. Any cab stopping would have to double park

in the street. We walked by it this morning. It doesn't look as nice from the

outside and the rates are higher. That's all I know about it.

I would suggest e mailing for January rates. suzette@ihppr.com

I forgot to mention the cost for hopping in a cab to old San Juan. We

went there and back on a Sunday. The cost was about $14 each way.

The traffic was thick and in all fairness if you went in light traffic, it

would obviously be less.

I just had to add something here. La

Dorada is a good restaurant but the lunch specials are Monday to

Friday only. We checked in at El Consulado on a Wednesday. Of

course, after a plane flight you want some food.
