mikesteg Posted February 20, 2006 #26 Share Posted February 20, 2006 Add in the 33% casino revenue tax and taxing corporate profits, nice windfall. If the lines are smart, they'll kick up the payout on the slots to like 98 or 99% in Alaskan waters to exciting players and avoid high profits, then kick them back down at soon as they leave. :D

While the passengers would be happy, the cruise line would still suffer a significant drop in profits therfore forcing an increase in fares. rjg41 Posted February 20, 2006 Author #28 Share Posted February 20, 2006 The initiative will not be on the ballot until November. Actually no, unless you have something better. I checked every place I could on the web and besides Cruise News Daily this is the only referance to the date I can find. This is a quote from the Juneau Empire web site: "A citizen's initiative to tax the cruise ship industry and enforce stricter environmental standards has been approved by Lt. Gov. Loren Leman for the August 2006 primary." http://www.juneauempire.com/stories/121904/loc_20041219028.shtml When you want to sneek something through don't have it on the general election ballot. Schplinky Posted February 20, 2006 #29 Share Posted February 20, 2006 I wonder if the millions that Alaska gets from this will be used to protect the environment... Doubt it.
