Restricted Items

Are the restrictions for items that are not allowed on board the ship the same as the TSA regulations for airlines? :confused: I have looked through the threads but could not find anything about restricted items.

No, but which line/ship are you on? Commonly asked about items that are prohibited on most cruises are candles and irons. Most personal items are allowed, but certain knives/weapons are also prohibited (like the Ulu's in Alaska ports).

Carnival regulations say:

 

"No irons, heating pads, or candles allowed in cabins."

Anything that could be construed as a weapon would be detected by the x-ray machines, if that's what you're asking.:eek:

Basically no candles, no irons, no weapons of mass destruction, no guns. It's a lot less restrictive than the list for flying but there are still certain things that can't be brought on board. Are you wondering about something specific?

I know you didn't ask but just in case be careful not to bring fruit or any plants, alive or dead back to the states, very heavy duty fines there.

Yeah, I carry a pocket knife. Comes in handy (not for knife fights, but loose threads, price tags on kids purchases, etc.). What about if it is in checked luggage?

A small pocket knife should be fine but I would definitely put it in your checked luggage. You will have to go through scanners like at the airport to get onboard.

You are probably safe with a pocketknife, but if it has a mean looking blade it could be confiscated as a 'weapon'. If it is a short little 2" blade, should be no problem. Agree with putting it in your checked luggage, however.

 

If this is something that has real sentimental value and you would hate to have it confiscated because you automatically put it in your pocket every morning and forget about it, then leave it at home and take something else for the tag and threads. Nail clippers, seam ripper, tiny scissors, embroidery thread cutter, etc.

While in Bermuda in Oct. 2003, my husband and I got off the ship and back on not even thinking that he had a small penknife attached to his keyring. It went undetected. Not sure that would be the case today. We were on Celebrity Zenith.

I carry a small pen knife most of the time, except when travelling by air, and have never been challenged while embarking/returning to our cruise ship. I always put it in a fanny pack or bin with all my other metal objects and HAL has never confiscated it nor challenged me about it.

You cannot bring: firearms, knives with blades longer than 3", any hazardous materials including lighter fluid or any other combustible material, illegal drugs, candles and certain types of oxygen containers used by those with lung disease.

What about irons for your hair, you know those flattening ones? Curling irons?

When getting back on the ship, certain items are not allowed, baseball bats, whips, etc.
