Unlimited Dining Plan questions

I am considering booking the unlimited dining plan on an upcoming 3 night cruise on the Independence of the Seas but I have a few questions. This itinerary does not have any sea days. Are there any days that we would be able to use the plan at lunch?  Also, I am traveling with my 12 year old son. I see that Royal considers a 12 year old a child and that I pay $10 for him at specialty restaurants but I’m curious what his options are?  Is there a way for me to view the kids menus? He doesn’t have a very refined palate but he loves steak so I want to make sure he could still get that like he can in the MDR.  TIA!
