Looking for a good song to use on my blog.:)

I just put the finishing touches on my cruise "concept" C.D. The thought is to cover the feeling from planning a cruise to the feeling you get on the last day of the cruise.

1. I’ve Been Everywhere – Johnny Cash

2. Holiday Road – Lindsey Buckingham

3. Holiday – Green Day

4. Vacation – Go-Go’s

5. Miami – Will Smith

6. Shiny Happy People – R.E.M.

7. Conquest of Paradise – Vangelis

8. Southern Cross – Crosby Stills Nash & Young

9. Orinoco Flow (Sail Away) – Enya

10. Son of a Son of Sailor – Jimmy Buffett

11. Come Sail Away – Styx

12. Cruisin’ – Smokey Robinson

13. Song of the Seas – Vangelis

14. Sailing – Christopher Cross

15. Sea of Love – Robert Plant

16. Soak Up the Sun – Sheryl Crow

17. Caribbean Blue – Enya

18. Summer Wind – Frank Sinatra

19. Beyond the Sea – Bobby Darin

20. Perfect Day - Hoku

21. Steel Drums from Cool Runnings

22. Roam – B-52’s

23. Love Unlimited Theme – Barry White

24. Lust for Life – Iggy Pop

25. Sloop John B – Beach Boys

26. All Summer Long – Beach Boys

27. Boys of Summer – Don Henley

28. Time to Say Goodbye – Andrea Bocelli

29. Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald – Gordon Lightfoot

30. Hymn to the Sea – James Horner

It's an eclectic mix.

I agree with the "Pina Colada" song (actually the title is "Escape")....I also like "Rhythm Divine" by Enrique Igelsias (1st song I heard when boarding Grand Princess)......

OK this one is pretty sad :D .....from my 6 year old son's Disney Jams CD....."I Like to Move It Move It" (from the movie Madagascar)...don't know why but that one make me want to be out on deck attending an "Island Night" party!

I love the mix of songs but I am not sure about #29 Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald. I really enjoy the song but are you sure it is good for songs dealing with a cruise:confused: Not sure I really want to hear about a ship going down when I am on a cruise.:D

Just sit right back and you'll hear a tale,

a tale of a fateful trip.

That started from this tropic port,

aboard this tiny ship.

The mate was a mighty sailin' man,

the skipper brave and sure.

Five passengers set sail that day,

for a three hour tour, a three hour tour………

The weather started getting rough,

the tiny ship was tossed.

If not for the courage of the fearless crew,

the Minnow would be lost; the Minnow would be lost.

The ship took ground on the shore of this uncharted desert isle,

with Gilligan, the Skipper too,

the Millionaire, and his Wife,

the Movie Star, the Professor and Mary Ann,

here on Gilligan's Isle.

So this is the tale of our castaways,

they're here for a long, long time.

They'll have to make the best of things,

it's an uphill climb.

The first mate and his skipper too,

will do their very best,

to make the others comfortable,

in the tropic island nest.

No phones, no lights, no motor cars,

not a single luxury.

Like Robinson Crusoe,

it's primitive as can be.

So join us here each week my friend,

you're sure to get a smile.

From seven stranded Castaways,

Here on Gilligan's Isle.

Jimmy Buffett and/or Kenny Chesney songs are great!

I agree with the Madagascar song-my 5yo ds sings that allllll the time!

Great idea about filling MP3 or burning a CD to play to get in cruise mode.

* note to self: get portable blender and more tequila and kiddie pool and put it out on snow-covered lawn and close my eyes.

Im on my cruise, Im on my cruise.....

I've always been partial to "The Last Farewell" by Roger Whittaker, even if it is a tad sad. Must be my British heritage.

Druke

I remember that song. I think it's one of the few songs he recorded with a full set of lyrics. He seems to whistle about 75% of his other stuff!

It's got nothing to do with sailing, but my favourite is Neil Young's "Four Strong Winds"

Grumm

Way back in 1-95, we did a New Zealand/Australia cruise on the Pacific Princess (The Love Boat). On the in-cabin TV, they ran a documentary about P&O ships being used as troopers in WW2, and they used The Last Farewell as the theme music.

It was a wonderfully done series - one I would like to buy if I could find it, preferably on DVD.

Great list, but have to agree that I don't want to hear about the waters they call gitchee-goomee while I'm at sea.

My very favorite song to end my cruise CD with is "Lovely Cruise" by Jimmy Buffet. We've put it on our iPod and plan on playing it (quietly) on the top deck on the last night of our cruise in two weeks while we dance. What a perfect way to end what I am sure is going to be a perfect trip!

It’s a Beautiful Day – U2

Ten Rounds With Jose Cuervo – Tracy Byrd

Twistin by the Pool – Dire Straits

Jungle Love – Steve Miller Band

Mexico – James Taylor

Island in the Sun – Wheezer

Dollar Dance – Collin Lucas

Sea Of Love – Robert Plant

Two Tickets to Paradise – Eddie Money

Just a few more suggestions that I don't think are anywhere on here yet...(sorry if they are a repeat). We are actually cruising with friends that have never been on a cruise before so as a "Welcome to Cruising" gift my husband burned two complete CD's with cruise music and put a picture of two of the islands that we are going to on the front. It is all that I have listened to for the past month!

On our last cruise, one of our fellow Cruise Critic friends burned cd's for all of us and I still pop it in the car whenever I want to feel in a cruising mood. Great combination of songs that were about cruising, friends, & also ones that reminded us of songs heard on past cruises.

Some songs were Celebration by Kool & the Gang, Float On by Modest Mouse, One Love/People Get Ready by Bob Marley, Summer Wind by Michael Buble, You've Got a Friend in Me by Randy Newman and even the F.U.N. Song by Spongebob (& Plankton)!

The previous year several of the same people had gone on the same cruise and he made one for that one too. We're cruising on the Freedom in October again with this same friend and can't wait to see what's going to be on the CD this time!:D (He's already confirmed that one is in the works.)

First, start with the entire Jimmy Buffet catalogue...especially Cheeseburger in Paradise, Son of a Son of a Sailor, Changes in Attitude Changes in Lattitude, Margaritaville, Fins, My African Friend, Volcano...and on and on...

Then, throw in the Beach Boys' "Sloop John B"...

Loggins and Messina's "Vahevela"

Bob Dylan's "Black Diamond Bay"...and "When The Ship Comes In":

http://bobdylan.com/songs/shipcomes.html

Warren Zevon's "Mutineer":

"Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum

Hoist the mainsail - here I come

Ain't no room on board for the insincere

You're my witness

I'm your mutineer

I was born to rock the boat

Some may sink but we will float

Grab your coat - let's get out of here..."

Oh yeah, and for a little wry humor, Randy Newman's "Sail Away"...
