Which do you prefer?

I've gone on two Carnival Cruises in the past and now we are looking to go on another cruise next January. We've done the western caribbean cruises before so we are looking for something different. This being said, we are looking to either leave from L.A. or Florida.

I want to get everyone's opinions on what cruise line / ship they prefer and why. I'm really torn between all the different cruises and can't decide on which to go with. We are a group of around 25 people, ages range from 21-55.

Thanks for any and all comments.

Royal Caribbean's Voyager class ships hands down. Tons of activities for everybody, whether you just want to relax by the adults only pool or be really active and go ice skating, or wall climbing, or participate in the games by the main pool.

I have to agree with the above poster! I am going on The Grandeur in April, which is a smaller ship...I am actually looking forward to it. That being said, I am also going without my daughters and my hubby and just with my Mom and sisters! Lots of chatting among the 5 of us, since we all live in different parts of the USA......no need for all the extras on this cruise.

We really enjoyed our Mexican Riveria cruise. Cobo San Lucas is one of our all time favorite ports. We hope to go back in ’07 (if we can work the dates out), as DH wants to go fishing there. Only minor negative was we didn’t expect it to be so cool in April, so we weren’t prepared for the 1st 2 days and final day of our cruise to be quite chilly. Next time we’ll just go prepared and all will be wonderful!

We prefer balconies on newer ships and usually pick the date, then the ship . . . and then we aren’t too picky about WHERE we go. It’s mostly about the sea days for us!

Good luck and happy planning!! :)

Looking forward to our next cruise . . .

Constellation Oct. ’06 – Western Caribbean

Brilliance of the Seas April ’06 – Panama Canal

Jewel of the Seas Oct. ’05 – Bermuda and Caribbean

Dawn Princess March '05 - Western Caribbean

Caribbean Princess '04 (C752 Cabin off back of ship) - Eastern Caribbean

Island Princess '03 - Panama Canal

Star Princess '03 - Mexican Riveria

Grand Princess '02 - Western Caribbean

Enchantment of the Seas '98 - Eastern Caribbean

Yeah we did Carnival Conquest In January 04 with 22 people, all the same that are wanting to go this time. We cruised from Galveston once, and NOLA last time. Everyone liked Carnival. It was a good mix of people that everyone seemed to fit in and have fun. The younger people in the group, ages 21-28, are wanting to have fun on the boat (i.e. casinos, dancing, bars) and they want the same for the land excursions. The older people in the group, mostly parents of the younger group, are pretty content with whichever. As for dining and what not, carnival was good since it had both sit down and buffet style. I know everyone is fine with Carnival, I just wanted to get opinions on what else is out there.

  • 2 weeks later...

We have done 3 Carnival cruises, 1 Princess and just got off the Mariner of the Seas this past Sunday (Voyager Class Ship). The Mariner wins HANDS DOWN!!! Like you, we wondered how much better a cruise could really be because we had enjoyed our Carnival Cruises so much. We found the differences everywhere on the ship...the staff was very helpful and happy to do anything to help you and make your vacation great, the food was wonderful, they don't skimp on the drinks, kids program was better and there are more activities to offer like the rock climing wall, ice skating rink, inline skating, basketball court, putt putt, golf simulator, the list goes on and on. As far as the rooms, we had a superior balcony room and it was very close to the balcony room we had on Carnival as far as space...a little bigger, but not a lot. You have Johnny Rockets, Chops and Portfinio's (Italian Restaurant). There are a lot of subtle differences that we noticed as well like how they created shady spots for lounge chairs on Deck 12 (sun deck above the pools) towards the bow of the ship. I could go on, but I'm sure you get the picture. We booked the same week for next year and considered going back to Carnival, but we decided that the extra $$ was well worth it! I am a RCCL convert! ; )

We are having a family reunion in january and chose the Mariner becasue of hte size of hte ship and the activities. We will have family members from 2 years up to 75, and we feel that these ships offer something fodr everbody.
