loppster Posted May 10, 2004 #1 Share Posted May 10, 2004 My family and I will be sailing on the Jubilee in June for our first cruise and we will be driving to the port in Jacksonville. My question is... How do I handle the luggage? Do I have to "check" it in similiar to going to the airport or do they just take it directly to your cabin? Just curious how this is handled. Thanks for your help!! Bunkie103 Posted May 10, 2004 #2 Share Posted May 10, 2004 When you arrive at the port, you hand it over to the baggage people who will verify your cabin number and graciously accept a tip from you. It is then placed on the ship in large containers and delivered directly to the hallway outside your cabin, sometimes before you even leave port. minooka Posted May 10, 2004 #5 Share Posted May 10, 2004 If you have a gty and no cabin number, do the porters have a list and look it up for you or do you just leave it there and hope for the best - not my favorite way of doing things?! bethee Posted May 10, 2004 #7 Share Posted May 10, 2004 They should have a manifest and be able to check your cabin number and give you new tags. If not you will still get you luggage but it might take a bit longer.

loppster Posted May 10, 2004 Author #9 Share Posted May 10, 2004 Dolly, That is indeed the same cruise we will be on. We have quite a large group going (13 people). We are all very excited, except my youngest daughter, she is kind of nervous about a big ship. But she will soon get over it!!! I noticed that you are from Kentucky. What city do you live in? I live in the great state of Indiana, but work in Louisville. Just curious! RabidDolly Posted May 10, 2004 #10 Share Posted May 10, 2004 I live in Henderson, KY and work in Evansville, IN. This is the first time I've found someone who is sailing on the same ship and at the same time as me. I've been on this board since i think around March or so when we booked our cruise and found that this forum is so full of information and now I found myself quite addicted to the site and to cruising and I haven't even gone a cruise yet. Seems kinda funny huh.. lol? I don't blame your daughter for being a bit unsure about going, I am also feeling a bit anxious and very nervous about going out on a big ship. 13 people WOW that is a big group, are they all your family? ~~Dolly Carnival Jubilee 6/2004
loppster Posted May 10, 2004 Author #11 Share Posted May 10, 2004 No, not all of them. My immediate family is my wife, and two daughters and my parents are going as well. The rest are friends and their parents and kids. I have been lurking around here for about a month and found some good information as well. I have to do someting while eating my salad (trying to take off the extra pounds before vacation)!!!LOL! Let me know if there is anything about the ship or any of our ports that you think I should know or might be interesting?? We are all newbies to cruising except for my parents, and they kind of act like they've never been before. They are asking us questions like we've been before!!! I can't wait to take off!!!! RabidDolly Posted May 10, 2004 #12 Share Posted May 10, 2004 Thats so funny that you said something about a salad... lol. I'm eating a salad as we speak for the same reason you are... lol... i'm trying to loose some pounds before we leave as well. What excursions are you guys doing? I couldn't find any good snorkeling trips in Nassau because we get there so late in the afternoon, so we opted for snorkeling in key west. Were hoping to just relax on the beach near the Atlantis in Nassau once we finished seeing the dig. After we get off the boat in Jacksonville were going to drive down the coast a bit and stay in a nice lil bead and breakfast before we head home the next day. If I think of any useful advice for your trip I'll let you know, I can't think of anything right now though.. sorry ... I'm sure something will come up soon! ~~Dolly Carnival Jubilee 6/2004
loppster Posted May 10, 2004 Author #13 Share Posted May 10, 2004 You don't know funny yet.... I went so far as to join a gym to work out before we go. I haven't stepped foot in a gym since...high school!!!! And I seem to make very good excuses for not going to the gym on a daily basis. I'm glad you mentioned the excursions, because the only thing I wanted to do was snorkle in Nassau, but didn't think about the time we get into port. Both us and our friends have daughters that would rather shop than do anything else, so we will probably just wait until we get on the ship to book any excursions. But I will make sure and tell everyone about the time we arrive. gatour Posted May 10, 2004 #15 Share Posted May 10, 2004 I will also be on the Jun 4th sailing. We will be driving all the from across town. I am looking forward to this cruise. Haven't been on a Carnival cruise in years so interested in how Carnival has evolved. I also have been on Jubilee's two sister ships (Celebration and Holiday) so this will complete the sweep.
