robntawn Posted December 22, 2021 #1 Share Posted December 22, 2021 Purchasing cruise insurance for upcoming 01/15/2022 Odyssey cruise, and spooked with recent Covid cases aboard and missed ports. I know to purchase with primary medical and Covid coverage. What are opinions regarding maximum medical coverage and medical evacuation coverage? I’m considering $500,000 med evacuation and medical expenses.
klfrodo Posted December 22, 2021 #2 Share Posted December 22, 2021 where is your cruise going? In almost all instances, evacuation from the ship is free. Can only be done by the military/coast guard, etc. However, for Caribbean cruises, I go with $100K medical and $250K evac combination. Just to ensure you know,, "Primary vs, Secondary" only is in reference in determining the order of who reimburses first. Has nothing to do with who pays for the medical treatment received. I only say this because sometimes people think Primary means they will pay the healthcare provider directly. That is not the case in most instances. LB_NJ Posted December 22, 2021 #3 Share Posted December 22, 2021 It depends on your risk tolerance. In my opinion a minimum is $100,000 medical and $500,000 evacuation (the policies usually have different amounts for medical and evacuation). Also, very carefully read the fine print of the actual policy. Some of the policies state that the end date is shortly after the scheduled end date of travel so even if you are still in a hospital the insurance ends even if you are below the full coverage amount.

Perfect. My thoughts as well.
