Drive or Fly to port if staying in the US

Recommended Posts

Seeing various threads regarding what happens if you become COVID positive on the ship and RCI response.  Would be interested to hear of people’s experience if they tested positive and had to get back to their home within the US (no intl travel) as it relates to RCI’s policies.  Example:  if you drove were you free to goto your vehicle and go home, if you flew did RCI pay for a private jet, will RCI give you credit for a rental car etc.  Heading on a cruise out of Fla in a couple of weeks and can drive 12 hrs or fly and trying decide best option….thanks in advance.

It would be super helpful to find out WHEN each person’s experience took place.

It seemed like until omicron surged during the packed Christmas cruises, people were being taken care of like Royal said they’d do.  They had well-planned post cruise quarantine arrangements and/or private jets.

Then cases surged over the holidays and Royal started dropping the ball big time.  Many recent cruisers were basically told to figure it all out for themselves and make their own arrangements.  Some of these posts telling about their experiences have been shut down.

Definitely drive if you can.   One you avoid the chance of getting covid while in airport/plane then driving yourself.

Much nicer to hop in your own car and drive home then deal with airports, IMO.

IF you should test positive there have been recent reports where royal escorted the people and their luggage to their car and let them drive home on their own.

Flying to TX to catch AD out of Galveston in a few weeks.  With all of the airline cancellations going on, I made a one way rental car reservation as a backup.  If I get delayed flying home, my travel insurance will take care of me.  And yes it does have COVID coverage!

Thank you all for your input  - anyone had experience parking at Port Everglades - our ship leaves out of T18.

We were on the NYE cruise on Allure and just got home yesterday - drove to the port for a variety of reasons.  We go to the port an hour before the new boarding time and dropped luggage.  Parking is a breeze - when in doubt, I just asked security/sheriff personnel for help.  Spent some time in the car and walked over to the terminal for our time slot.  They did allow people into the building early and there were workers checking your sea pass for the "original" time slot before waving you in.

I took the parking ticket onto the ship with me and paid for parking at machines at the edge of the lot on the way back to the car.  Porters will take your bags all the way to the car for you if you so desire.
