Venice Port question

Recommended Posts

We are going on Royal Caribbean Splendour Of the Seas in July. Can someone tell me where the ship will be docked and how you actually get on it?

Do you have to take a water taxi to the actual ship or can you just walk on at the port?

Is it at the Marittima terminal?

What about hand held luggage? Can you keep it with you as you get on? One last thing... when disembarking how do they do luggage? Where does it go and where do you pick it up when you get off the ship?

It would be Marittima. You can walk to Marittima from the Piazzale Roma in 10 to 15 minutes. I'm sure taxi is always an option. I'm planning on carrying my handheld stuff. I always carry enough, so if my luggage is delayed to the room, I can still go to dinner. Not sure about disembarkation, but would guess they put in groups for you to pick up, like other cruises. Where are you disembarking?

Where will you be arriving from when you board the ship? If you are coming directly from the airport, you can either take the bus to Piazzale Roma (http://www.cheapvenice.com/buses-venice-marco-polo-airport.htm), and then taxi to ship. Or, just take a taxi from the airport to the ship, which would of course cost more.

As far as disembarkation, you will fill out a form after you board the ship, giving the details of your departure plans, i.e. staying at a hotel, going directly to airport, etc. They will then assign you a group and departure time and give you color-coded tags for your luggage. You place your luggage outside your cabin the night before departure, and then you bags will be waiting for you just off the ship along with the other bags with the same-coded tags. If you arrange for transportation to the airport through the cruise line, then they may transport your bags to the airport for you, where you will pick them up for check-in.

If you are departing from Venice Airport then a land Taxi is the easiest option or if you have train connections then take a land Taxi to Venice Mestre Station. These sites should be of interest to you.

We are flying into Traviso and staying the night near the Piazza San Marco and Rialto Bridge so will have to find transportation from there to the port. I am guessing the port is located near the Piazzale Roma? How far is it and what transportation would we need? Can you keep handheld luggage with you?

I am not familiar with the Treviso airport, but I did find this info on the web: www.atvo.it/eng/airport.php?var=t

You might also try asking on the Fodor's europe forum for info on Treviso http://www.fodors.com/forums/threadselect.jsp?fid=2

Once you arrive at P. Roma, a short and inexpensive taxi ride will take you to the ship. I believe you can carry as much carry-on luggage as you can handle when you board the ship, if that is what you mean.

  • 2 weeks later...

Little Britain,

We used these last year and we were delayed 3 hours but he was standing outside the terminal with a name card waiting for us when we arrived. I know a few people have used this company and they knew all about Cruise Critic and had seen my postings. The service was superb.

I'm sure that you can get a plain and simple cab but Treviso is over 20 miles away compared to 7 for Marco Polo. Lots of trip advisor sites quote taxis as being very expensive from Treviso.

Who are you flying with out of interest.

Andy

….would be Bus Transportation from Venice Marco Polo Airport to Piazzale Roma and then a taxi or your ship’s bus to the cruise pier. You DO NOT want to walk to the ship pier from Piazzale as it is a long way to haul luggage :

Bus Transportation from Venice Marco Polo Airport to Piazzale Roma:

(As you leave the Customs Hall, there is an atm to get euros if you have not done so already. You will need euros for the bus, taxi, etc.)

Buy tickets for Blue Bus #5 Piazzala Roma (about €3) from the ATVO booth in the Arrivals terminal. If the booth is closed, proceed directly to the bus stop where there is a ticket machine.

The bus stop is located outside the Arrivals/Departure terminals. Very easy to find. (Caution: there are several other buses that stop there and some others are also blue, so check the signs carefully before boarding!) Travel time to the Piazzale Roma is 20 minutes. Piazzale Roma is a square are like a central taxi/bus parking lot. Around the square you will find a parking garage, a variety of shops including a left-luggage shop, and the major embarkation point for the water taxis and water busses that will take you down the Grand Canal into Venice. You can also catch a taxi or your ship’s bus (if they provide one) to the Cruise Pier.
