handicap parking in miami

have read on other posts that parking at Port of Miami is free if you have a handicapped person traveling with a handicap permit

 

just want to check if anyone can confirm this ( will check PoM website also)

Check this out carefully. We were recently on a cruise and someone said they had been told handicapped parked for free. When they got to the parking lot, they were told that had been changed. Now there was a fee but, it was not as high as for non handicapped. Sorry, don't remember if it was Port Canaveral, Charlotte,SC or Fort Lauderdale - our cruise ports since Nov.

Here's the numbers for contact at Miami-Dade Port. Doesn't say anything about handicapped being free, but it was the last time we were there 3 years ago. You can call and find out the current status.

I was wheelchair bound in May 2005 when I cruised and it was DEFINITELY NOT free. We paid $84.00, just like everyone else, but got to park in handicapped area on first floor of garage, thankfully.

Parking at the Port of Miami was still free for the handicaped last year. However. they do not identify you as handicap from plates or a hang tag. You need to tell them that you or a passenger is handicaped and show them proof.
