San Juan or Nassau

I am planning a cruise which goes to St. Thomas, St. Maarten, and either San Juan or Nassau, Bahamas. Can you please tell me which one to go to for those who want something totally unique? Can't make up my mind... San Juan will also be from 5pm to 12am, Nassau from 7am-2pm.

 

Any suggestions???

If it were me... I'd choose the itinerary that includes San Juan and take the Night Tales In Old San Juan tour.

 

I haven't been to either port yet but have both on my upcoming cruise later this year. Im definitely looking more forward to the ambience of SJ, including the history and the forts.

Depends on what you want to do...

 

If you want beach time....Nassau (YUK in my opinion)

 

If you want to feel like you stepped back in time 300 years....San Juan.

We stayed 3 days/2 nights precruise last Nov. and fell in love with old San Juan.... but just my opinion. The forts close at 5 pm so that wont work but you can do a tour (Legends) or a nice dinner with a carriage ride....or hit a casino and salsa club (they invented salsa :D )

where do you go for the carriage rides in OSJ? Any dinner place suggestions?

If you dock at the old San Juan piers (probably) then they are right there.... cost depends on how long etc....

 

Dinner..... lots of recommendations.... but what kind of food are you looking for ????

 

We had dinner at our hotel (El Convento) at the El Picoteo our first night there as we got in too late to explore (and tired !). It is a tapas restaurant and we thoroughly enjoyed it... the lobster empanadas and the Chilean bass ceviche were to die for and the others were very very good also. Husband ordered some and I ordered some and we shared. The hotel is located right in the middle of old San Juan and was built in the 1500's as a Carmelite convent and on the walking tour - also across the street is the San Juan cathedral)

Also had dinner at Pamelas (at the Numero Uno guesthouse in Isla Verde) which was absolutely outstanding. Required a taxi ride tho so will add to cost of dinner.

There are many others..... I'm sure will be many posts....to follow :)

I cruised the Majesty last April, which stops in Naussa. Never again. It is so dirty there. The water is pretty, but away from the beach was nothing but filth. I am cruising this April to San Juan and it seems there is sooooooo much more to see and do there, including seeing beautiful water.

Given the choice, go to San Juan. Naussa is expensive, dirty and all in all a tourist trap. San Juan, especially old San Juan has an European feel to it. There are several nice places to eat and may ways to taken in the local color.
