Ocean Players Club

Smooze

Recommended Posts

Hey all you gamblers! 2 years ago when I was on the Destiny I signed up for the Ocean Players Club, mostly for kicks and giggles. I was on the OPC website the other night and noticed they tell you to keep in touch and let the casino host on your next cruise know when and on what ship you'll be sailing next and you might get a "surprise"

The site gives you email address for the casino hosts on the carnival ships as well as the OPC contact. I mailed them both about my cruise on the Liberty in 8 days!!!! But I haven't heard anything back from either of them.

Has anyone else done this? If so did you receive a "surprise?"

I signed up on my last cruise, I don't know if the staff in the casino could tell or not, but my Mom and I got free drinks a few times. I think it has more to do with the $$ amount played though because I play the slots and with my card in the machine it always showed how close you are to the next "reward" and I noticed that the casino staff always looked at that part of my machine (unless it was just to see if I was already a past guest and had the gold S&S).

In any case, please let us know if you get any surprises!

Good luck!

This is an e-mail I received shortly after our cruise last June /July, but I think the "cash back rebate" depends on how many points you earned:

Firstly I would like to thank you for choosing Carnival Cruise Lines & sailing with us on the Carnival Victory. We do hope you enjoyed your time with us in the South China Sea Club Casino & that we exceeded your Expectations.

As a participant in the Ocean Players Club you have qualified for a cash back rebate onboard your next cruise which can be claimed from the Cashiers, As a reminder, you must claim your rebate within 24 months.

Be sure to check out our website for the latest updates

Once again, thank you for cruising with us & we hope to see you on another Carnival Fun ship in the future.

I was on the Glory 1/28/06....and I also emailed the Glory host a few weeks before the cruise. When we arrived at the ship, our cabin was decorated with "Bon-Voyage" decos., and we had a fruit basket in the room....all complements of the Ocean Players Club.

I e-mailed the casino host 2 weeks before our Victory cruise (last week) I received a response with in 5 days....but got nothing special as is inferred. The OPC is really just intended for slot players to my knowledge...and that is too bad.

I'm cruising on the Carnival Liberty 03/04 and I emailed the Casino Host. I also included my booking number and room number in a blatant attempt to get something from the Host! I'll let everyone know if I recieve anything special when I cruise. Only 7 days until I leave Boston, and 8 days until I get on the Liberty and spend 8 days sailing around the Caribbean!

DH and i Received cash back letters that we cashed in on our next cruise. The victory has instant rewards now so there was no need for the letter. When you accumulated enough points you simply got your reward out of the machine. It's very simple to do.

I play alot of craps and i have always received free drinks, without a problem. The waiters love it because the tips are more then the 15% they usually get....lol

Get to know your dealers, and tip them well thats my motto..........lol

When you Email them, what do you say "hi, I'm cruising on your ship".

I'm all for the free stuff, but I don't know what to say in the Email. I don't spend a lot of money (well that depends on if you ask me or my DH! :D ), but I do play the slots every night.

Don't mean to hijack this thread, but am a newbie and interested in this thread since there seems to be little about gambling on these boards.

Does the cruise ship players club work similarly to the Vegas players clubs in terms of cash back, comps, etc.?

Also, if anyone knows, I read on the OPC site that they now have Texas Hold 'Em on many ships - do they have lessons or a beginners' time to play? How much are the blinds, bets?

Thanks!

I think 2500 slot points gets you $25 cash back. Points also earn crap from the company store - some of it is decent - one cruise they showered me with it. :D Most people don't get free drinks - harder to qualify for than Vegas. Sometimes discounts on cruises, sometimes free or reduced entry into tournaments. Pay tables on video poker suck.

I figured video poker payout tables wouldn't be so good - good ones are even hard to find in Vegas now. We play a bit of everything - craps being the favorite but so expensive when its cold.

I did find the FAQ on thre OPC web site and answered a bit of my own question: yes it is $25 cash back for 2,500 points. Thank you.

I contacted the OPC directly and the Casino Host on the Glory last year prior to sailing. Got responses back from both, however nothing special waiting for us once on board. Two other people I was sailing with contacted them as well and both received the Bon Voyage cabin decorations. When I questioned the Casino Host about this, she asked me who I contacted, and I told her it was her that I got the response from. Stupid me didn't bring her email with me. But she made good and sent my parents and I to the supper club for dinner the next night.

I've been a member of the OPC since 2002, and have earned the cash back, the free drinks, the logo merchandise and discounts on future cruises. In fact, I called today to price for a cruise in October and found out that my discount went up drastically from my last cruise (basically the Casino pays this portion of the cruise fare). That is in addition to the lowest price I can negotiate.

If you are going to play the slots or video poker, definitely use your card, as it certainly can't hurt!

I've been an OPC member since 2000. I have one woman that took care of me at OPC, since then. Each time I cruise, I call her and let her know. On my last cruise with Carnival (10/04), my cabin was decorated, and I got the following in my room... Lg fruit basket with wine, 6 pk of Coke, 12 bar credits, cake, something else, AND I was upgraded from an IS to an OS. I am traveling alone this time, and when I called her, she asked if I minded if I didn't get the decorations, and asked me what kind of wine I liked.

Also... Despite what it says on the OPC website, I emailed the casino host on Fascination, and he told me that table players DO get rated if they play a min of $25 hand, for a certain number of hours. Last cruise I got a few free drinks in the casino, a bottle of wine at dinner one night, and some OPC merchandise (including a watch). Hmmm.. gotta go look for that watch!

For sure write to the casino host for your future sailing!

I have in the past and did last night. I received a reply in an hour with notice that something "nice" would be waiting in my cabin when I arrive onboard next Thursday!

Back in the good old single days I used to cruise on the Holiday every 3-4 months on the 4 day Baja run.I signed up on the first cruise and after I want to say the 3rd one I contacted a host. After reviewing my play she had me moved from an outside to a cat 11 !.

This continued until a cruise on the Inspiration, while playing craps (my Game) the dice went of the table,I called a $200 any seven, dealer replied $200 any seven,as luck would have it a seven rolled meaning a $1000 win for me,well high fives with the players around me,look down at the table and no chips

I ask where the payout is and the dealer said that I didnt have a bet !

So I ask for the floor, walking him through what had happened, pointing out that yes I had made a call bet,but I had the money in the rail to back it up.

He wanders off to talk to the casino manager, comes back and says they won't pay it !,I ask why not and they say because there was no boxperson on the game,so I ask who's fault is that?

I end up in the cruise directors office the next morning pretty much in a screaming match with him,for those that don't know I run a craps pit in Las Vegas,I know the game and the way it should be run.

Well wife ended up with a day in the spa and I ended up not going near the casino again on the next 4 cruises, which is probably a good thing becuase without even counting the upgrades I made money :)

Does anyone know if my sign and sail card for the liberty will already be active with my enrollment in OPC on the last cruise 2 years ago or will I need to speak with someone in the casino to get the card rolling with OPC?

By the way, still haven't heard back from either OPC or the Liberty Casino Host and it's been a couple weeks! We leave Friday for the cruise!!!!!

Did they not bother to review the tapes? I have had them stop the game (I play Blackjack) on 2 or 3 occasions (on land and at sea) so that tapes could be reviewed... and it always works out! I don't, however, ask for a review when they make an error that benefits me - though one time a player to my right was KIND enough to point out to the dealer that my 18 did not beat the dealers 18 - which he had just paid me for....

The 2nd night of our cruise last year on the Glory, my parents were playing a $2 (2 coin, $4 a spin) slot machine. They played for about 3 hours and had earned over 4,000 points on that machine alone.

The next afternoon we show up at the casino for the slot tournament and my dad puts his card in a machine to see how many points he has. It now reads about 3,800 points less. He never cashed any of his points in since the previous evening. So he questions the slot host and she says she doesn't know what happened to them. He then talks to the casino manager and she doesn't know either, but says she'd check into it. Well, she does and says that the computer system only shows them as having put $60 in the machine and having played that night for about 15 minutes or so. He says no, he put in 12 $100 bills and 1 $20 out of his pocket. I suggested that management open the machine and balance the $ with what their computer was saying it should have. They told me they don't do that until the end of each cruise.

They accused him of trying to cheat the casino out of points and he requested that they review their tapes to see how long they were at that machine and how often they fed money into it. Took a couple days of both sides arguing back and forth, but they admitted to us that they don't actually have the cameras working in the slot areas.

So, dad boycotted the casino until we sent off an email to our TA and the OPC about the situation. He then decides to play again on the 2nd to last day, and lo and behold the same exact thing happens. He plays for quite awhile, take his card out, makes note of the points earned (again a couple thousand) and goes to bed. The next day at the casino he puts the card in a machine and the points are gone. Needless to say, he is livid at this point. So, we send off another email to the OPC and TA. His big beef wasn't necessarily about the cash back he would have earned with those points (small in comparison to what you have to put in to earn them), its that our cruise discounts are based on the points earned. Future cruises wouldn't be discounted as much without showing a history of those points.

To make an already long story a little shorter, FINALLY on the last day of the cruise, they admit that there was a snafu with their software. They had just installed the new slot software on the machines and it wasn't tested. (I have worked in software development for 6 years, so I had a few choice words to say about that). What they found out is that on certain machines if you didn't take your card out of the machine after earning 400 points, and just kept it in until you were done playing, the next time you put it in a machine, the points would be gone, with no record. And, miraculously, they found all of his lost points and reinstated them.

I'm still looking to see if anyone know's the answer to this since the thread was sorta hijacked:

As far as I know it should be active, but I'd check with the Casino host once you are onboard. They may have you fill out one of the information cards again.

I'd try sending both the Liberty and OPC an email again to let them know you are coming. Give them the date of sailing and your booking number. Because if they do suprise you with the Bon Voyage decorations, they are ordered ahead of time through the Fomalities shop on board, and they'll need your booking number to do so.
