Rhodes - DIY to the best beach

We will be in Rhodes in June without an excursion. While they may not have the best beaches in Greece, it is one port we don't have an excursion so would like to have some time to enjoy a beach. We don't want to pay $99pp to be transferred by the cruise line to Lindos. We are hoping someone can tell us how we can get to/from the beach from port and what pristine beach has the better amenities (chairs, lunch/cocktails). How much would it cost to transport? Is there anything else to know? We don't care to take in any culture, just a carefree day. We would have had four days full of stimulation so we just want a laid back kind of day. We are young in our mid 50s. We're from Florida and are used to the Caribbean oceans so would like to find a spot we wouldn't be too disappointed.

We spent a week on this fabulous island and also on a subsequent cruise port day.  Would certainly rank Lindos high on the list of things to see for the sheer beauty - we rented a car when we stayed the week and was an easy drive. On a port day, this may not be possible as believe self parking at Lindos is crowded.  Definitely would stroll the Palace of the Grand Master of the Knights of Rhodes in this medieval walled town and we could walk from the ship's pier. Has a nice mix of town squares of cafes and markets. For beaches, many are pebble beaches and perhaps if you google hotels close to the city centre, you can find their recommendations on their website and/or they may offer day passes. When we stayed a week at the Hotel Ibiscus located across from a lovely beach and within easy walk from/to the city centre (where the Palace, restaurants are). We visited over 6 Greek islands and this is our favourite.

Several years ago we took 2 of our son's on a cruise.  We told them to pick one of the islands and they could do whatever they wanted.  They decided on Rhodes and they wanted to go to the water park. Go figure!

Wouldn't have been what we would have chosen but it was their choice.  It was a destination intensive cruise so a beach/water day was actually a good choice.  We  enjoyed it as much as the boys did!
