On the 4/3 Rotterdam cruise (per the Cruise Director) the 2nd Orange Party was held on the Rotterdam.  This confused me because it's been talked about on CC forever.

 

It was on the last sea day night (Friday), which was also gala night (now that I think about it - that was odd).

 

It was held in the BB King Lounge. The regular band played regular music.  Many passengers had some sort of orange on.  The waiters had bright orange wigs.  For the first 30 min or so they came around with trays of various treats - small cream puffs (bossche bol), almond cookies, oliebollen, Dutch cheese, and one more that might have been boeter koek (butter cake).

 

That pretty much was the extent.  It's a nice idea and we had fun. But for an Orange party, was a little letdown.

I took this pix when flying out.  The Rotterdam is the lower ship.  Above it was a Celebrity.  To the left was the Eurodam.  You can very clearly see the difference in pool color, especially with the Rotterdam's midship pool.

The pools are not painted green - I've been on the Rotterdam twice (Dec 2021 and Apr 2022) and in Dec the pool was drained and refilled and was returned to a 'normal' blue colour.  

 

I haven't seen anything online but I'm pretty sure the pools are salt water .  The way the pools function, chlorine is supplied at a constant rate so factors such as higher use can actually cause algae to grow at a faster rate (resulting in the green color that develops).

Yes, a "letdown" is a good way to describe it.  Nothing like Dutch Night that once was an entertainment event that included a special Dutch Night menu in the MDR.

So if you take your key card out of the power slot, does that shut off all power to the cabin?  Like if you were trying to charge a device while you were out, there would be no power to the outlets?

I am not so sure about that.  A few interior lights can still function.  But, other outlets?  I would like to learn what others have experienced with this situation.

no. The pH balance is off.

For anyone interested, the Lido pool is a beautiful blue this morning. The aft pool is more of a light green, but not yellow.

Nice to see normal pool colors. I should have taken pictures during our sojourn Mar. 26 til April 10. Both pools were not so visually appealing

I haven't previously spent any time in a casino on a HAL ship, but I was at the Casino Bar for a while watching the Master's tournament and it did seem more cramped than I expected. The game tables really seemed crammed together.  I was looking forward to trying a Hold 'Em game but the only table they had was one of the Heads Up models and I wasn't interested.  Apparently others weren't either as I only ever saw a few people at that table during the entire cruise.

Here's a picture of the Sea View pool on April 3. It does have a green hue to it but honestly I never thought about it until reading this thread. It definitely looks more blue in the recent pics that were posted.

I thought it was odd to have it on a Gala night too.  I had an orange t-shirt but that would've necessitated changing clothes again after dinner and it seemed out of place when so many people are already dressed up for the evening.

I don't know about the outlets, but I do know it gets real dark in the shower when your significant other pulls her card out of the slot to go get coffee. 😅

8)Was a daily event schedule and additional info provided in a daily newsletter delivered the night before? There was a newsletter of the next day's activities every evening before or after dinner.

 

9)Did you find that you had more tender ports, due to the size of the ship? Other than the private island (which we did use), there were no tender trips.

 

10)Do I need to bring my ear plugs for the musical performances in the various venues? If you want to hear the music clearly, do not bring ear plugs It was not that loud but you can always pick a location further away from the sound. Like upstairs at B.B. Kings.

 

11)Were printed copies of newspapers provided? I do not know if you are talking NY Times, etc. I did not care. I wanted to get away from all the "noise".

If water color is a ph problem, then why are the selves that have 1 to 2 inches of water clear, wouldn’t it be the same color?
