Fisherwoman Posted May 3, 2022 #1 Share Posted May 3, 2022 If you are on the Discovery right now, what is the internet speed? I'm on the Royal and it's 11:41 AM and the download speed is 0.5 upload is 10.4. I wondered if the newer ship is any better. We are on the Discovery in five weeks. Thanks!!!!! chubbypiggy Posted May 3, 2022 #2 Share Posted May 3, 2022 There is a live thread on the Discovery Princess now. Ask your question there. Astro Flyer Posted May 3, 2022 #3 Share Posted May 3, 2022 On Discovery in Mexico & CA Coast it averaged close to 4 Mbps but based on their MedallionNet webpage it’s worse closer to the poles & in some other conditions. https://www.princess.com/cruise-tips-vacation-ideas/video/onboard-experience/how-medallionnet-works.html
Rare Rick&Jeannie Posted May 4, 2022 #4 Share Posted May 4, 2022 There is a fairly widespread belief by many people that Princess has changed satellite providers and the new company is not delivering "The Best WiFi at Sea" as Princess has promised. Of course...the satellite provider does not actually provide the *WiFi* on the ship; the ship's network system distributes whatever signal is being delivered via the satellite link (good *or* bad).
tiggerrr Posted May 4, 2022 #5 Share Posted May 4, 2022 Just did a speed test. We are between Victoria and Vancouver on Discovery. It was 5mbps up and 5mbps down.
Fisherwoman Posted May 5, 2022 Author #6 Share Posted May 5, 2022 Thanks for your help! Discovery is better than the Royal Princess, but RCCL is the BEST internet at sea. I hope Princess improves their service as some people need to check with their work email!

VRVacations Posted June 9 #9 Share Posted June 9 On Discovery at 9:45AM PT on June 9th, 2024 off the northern coast of Vancouver Island. 7.45 Mbps Download 2.70 Mbps Upload 25 ms ping 22 ms jitter But last night it was around 4 Mbps down and 1 Mbps, but high ping in the 300s and jitter in the 100s. It's not always consistent.
VRVacations Posted June 9 #10 Share Posted June 9 I spoke too soon. It just dropped to 3.19Mbps Down and 2.56Mbps Up. It's just not consistent. There's <1% packet loss ....
