Pros/Cons Embarkation Montreal or Boston for one-way cruise

Recommended Posts

Our sailings are normally embarking from NYC. But either stopping on the way to NE/CAN or on our return we alway find Boston a great city to visit. The pier is called the Black Falcon Terminal.

Embarking in Boston is just boarding the ship. It is a nice departure thru Boston Harbor out to sea.

But to enjoy Boston one needs to stay for several days before or after the cruise. Boston is our favorite port when on NE sailings. So interesting and welcoming.

Most recently we traveled one-way from Québec to Boston, based solely on the fare and not on the advantages of going one direction or the other. I cannot see an inherent advantage to either direction, though on individual travel situation there might be an advantage. Coming from New York, we traveled Amtrak to Montréal, Orléans Express to Québec, Norwegian Cruise Line to Boston, then BoltBus to New York. We could have just as easily reversed the loop. Coming from York. If you're traveling overland, it is a bit easier these days traveling between Harrisburg and Boston (via Amtrak Keystone + Regional/Acela or Greyhound/Peter Pan) than between Harrisburg and Montréal (Amtrak Adirondack still not yet back in service, and only Greyhound/Adirondack is currently available), so whether you would want to start out, or end up, the trip with a long day of overland travel between Harrisburg and Montréal might influence the cruise direction.
