When I worked for P&O they had massive discounts for serving staff and ex staff. I believe it was circa 80% but you could get chucked off if the cruise was full and a full fare paying passenger came along 🤨 not much good for serving staff as you could only make inquiries when you were on leave so ..... Alas no more perks like that!
dreadnought101 Posted July 28, 2022 #27 Share Posted July 28, 2022 I'm sure we've had a price drop on either an RCI or HAL cruise in the past (or it might have been that they were doing drinks and tips at a significantly reduced rate after we'd booked) and they either added the drinks and tips offer or they added the difference on as OBC. I don't think us Brits are completely frozen out but I think it's just not in our culture to ask/challenge. I wouldn't bank on it but if you don't ask, you don't get! And at the moment the industry is still very much in recovery mode so they wouldn't want to lose long term custom.
Martha1974 Posted August 8, 2022 #28 Share Posted August 8, 2022 For our last cruise we were travelling with friends (on separate bookings) and the price dropped significantly (£600). Our friends contacted the cruise line and were told that they would get the difference refunded. I called 10 mins later and was told that there were no refunds after final payment. Suffice to say I pointed out the inconsistency and it was escalated to a manager who called me back the following day (very apologetic) and confirmed that I was given the right information and that there shouldn't be a refund but as a "goodwill gesture" they would refund us as well. Didn't actually get it until after the cruise had started (without us as DH tested positive so we had to cancel) but we still got the refund to the credit card and FCC for the rest. RW75 Posted August 15, 2022 #29 Share Posted August 15, 2022 I’ve called and been repriced to the current offer with Azamara a couple of times. Most recently the fare difference was GBP1525 less and an additional USD450 in OBC. I do find Azamara very good for this and took advantage on the last two bookings I travelled on. Mocamps Posted August 26, 2022 #30 Share Posted August 26, 2022 Some years ago I booked a cruise with Carnival in the US and they had a Guaranteed Lowest price offer. As the price kept dropping I kept applying and receiving OBC for the difference. We used it for drinks and blew some of it in the casino - then won and cashed it in. We came back having paid very little for the cruise - though we haven't sailed with Carnival again as the ship was full of the 'f' word - families with noisy children!! ......though we may be back to join them soon now that we have grandchildren! We also booked a Celebrity cruise last year and that had a Price promise. When the price dropped before final payment, our payment was reduced, And that was booked here in the UK. With regard to booking through US travel agents, I have done it frequently in the past and without lying about my address. Some cruise lines allow it and some don't. However, it is no longer so appealing as, with current exchange rates, there's rarely much difference in price - and sometimes it works best the other way. Though they DO seem to have more flexible conditions.
