Cheers. We're not going to fly half way round the world and let a bit of rain hold us back haha. If however we didn't buy ahead.. how close to the time could you buy them? E.g. could we just buy them a day or 2 ahead from the ship.. and they'd just be electronic tickets on our phones?

Yes, a day or two in advance should be fine.

I never bought tickets in advance. I went over to the ferry terminal and bought tickets for the next available departure. Sure I had a time table with me to know which might be the next ferry to catch.
