Hello!

We will be doing the Grand European river cruise from Amsterdam to Budapest with Viking River Cruises. For those who have done this itinerary with Viking, does anyone have a list of the port times we will be in each port?
Also are we able to deviate and do our own excursion?
Thanks!

I did the GET but from Budapest to Amsterdam, so timings may/will be different.

But yes, of course you can decide not to go on the included excursion and you can do your own thing. You can go on the included tour to take advantage of a coach ride to a destination and then strike out to do your own thing.

As long as you get back to the boat before it departs, you won't have any problems. If you go on part of a tour and decide to break away - no problem but please do inform the tour guide as they have a count of those on the excursion and need to know not to include you. And when you talk to the guide, get the time and location of the return coach if a coach is used.

Anytime the boat is moored you can walk off and explore on your own, just ensure you know when the boat is due to depart - printed in Viking Daily newssheet you get the previous night, but wise to double check with reception before leaving boat.

You must reserve a place on the included tours using My Viking Journey before you go. You can change your mind later and not go on the tour

Just got back from the GE from A to B on the Modi.  I agree with all that pontac wrote.

Things are very fluid from day to day.  Timings may be off because of things beyond their control.

We were supposed to dock in Passau but had to dock elsewhere because two of the windows in the dining room were broken and that was where they needed to be to get them fixed.  We were bussed instead.

Just off the GET.

Port times vary based on river traffic and lock lines (you do 68 locks!).

Our schedules were constantly changing on the fly, with lots of drop off here for the bus, pick up there down/up steam so the boat can traverse with minimal delays.

Very difficult to plan ahead and certainly no fixed schedule. You do, however, get a preliminary schedule with your cruise documents prior to sailing.

Did you go Amsterdam to Budapest?  If you did did you stop in Karlstadt to let off the people going to Rothenburg?  Thanks.
