Excursions to Pompeii

We will be in Naples for a day and we definitely want to visit Pompeii.  So far all the tours we have checked on are 7-8 hours long.  We are looking for a 4hour tour.  We want to spend part of our visit in Naples.  Any recommendations for tour operators?

Most tour operators want to sell you a full-day tour, so that's what they list. Have you actually reached out to them and asked about a half-day tour of the site?

 

You can also get there on your own fairly easily (there is a train option with many departures and a bus option close to the ship with fewer options but easier overall...)

 

Once at the site there are guide available at the main entrance (Porta Marina), which is the one closest to the train stop for "Pompei Scavi" on the Circumvesuviana line.

The City Sightseeing shuttle bus appears to be back in operation post Covid, maybe that's the answer for you.  It's not a tour but it's not public transit either, kind of an in-between option that leaves from close to the cruise port.

There are limitations with this option that you don't face with public transit, mainly that you are stuck with their times.  You can go at 9:20 and return at 1:45, or go at 11:45 and return at 3:45.
