This.  It's not hard to be polite for 30 seconds and it's also not hard for 99% of folks to refrain from treating those situations like Thanksgiving dinner at grandma's. We've never had a meaningful problem.  The reality is, quite often we'll get assigned a booth for 4 as just a couple and all's well.
