Can this really be true or exageration?

passengers in the Victory dining room with no shirts????

 

Please see the "grab a chair, review of the Victory..." post on the Cruise Reviews board. The author claims that Victory passengers were allowed to dine in the dining room without shoes and without shirts! I'm sure that this must be exageration!

 

This is what is written in that review:

 

Oh speaking of the dining room, the attire ran the gamut. I was dismayed to see the number of people coming in with shorts and tank tops (when it clearly stated both were not allowed) and some people came in barefoot and no shirts!!! Lots of denim, too. I just wish Carnival would enforce their own dress code. Would make things so much easier.

 

 

 

I cannot believe that a passenger would expect to eat in the dining room with out a shirt and cannot believe that Carnival would allow it!!!

 

Any comments or confirmation that this is allowed????

Can't comment on the Victory, however when I was on the Glory a couple of weeks ago someone entered the dining room (really drunk) with shorts and no shirt. He was very quickly escorted out of the dining room by the Maitre'D (sp??). I can't imagine that if a Maitre'D had knowledge of someone in the dining room without a shirt on they would allow it.

 

We did see some shorts in the dining room. That used to really bother me, but now I have decided not to let it bother me. There are always people who don't follow the rules. You can't expect Carnival to go after every offender, just like you hope that traffic enforcement doesn't go after every offender on the interstate or we would all be in trouble. The reviewer mentioned seeing a lot of denim in the dining room and suggested that it wasn't supposed to be allowed. Unfortunately, I have never seen anything that indicates denim isn't allowed in the dining room (I personlly wish it weren't).

 

To me it seems like people would want to dress up for dinner to make it a nice event. I personally would prefer that everyone did, but I can only control my attire not everyone else's. So you have to just go with the flow and not let other's inability to follow rules upset you.

Since I didn't read that Victory review (I'll go there after this), I can't comment - except to say that perhaps the poster meant the Lido Deck dining area??? Sure hope so. I know if I saw someone w/o a shirt on in one of the main dining rooms, I'd go FIND the Maitre d' ASAP. I really would.

I'm almost positive the poster was referring to the Lido dining area.

 

Even though this is a violation of the rules, I have now and then noticed someone coming from the pool areas of the Lido deck into the buffet lines to get food (GLORY and PRIDE)dressed this way. I don't recall them staying in the buffet dining rooms, however. I think they just made a quick exit poolside to enjoy their lunch.

 

I spend too much time pondering "what would motivate them to do such a thing", but then usually excuse it as "probably a first-timer, wasn't even thinking about it" to "possibly a person who blatantly breaks all rules" (does bringing booze onboard ring a bell?).

 

Now, if this happened in the "formal dining room", I would probably say something about it to my head waiter and he'd/she'd most likely notify the proper personnel concerning this.

I am the OP of this review, and yes, it did happen. The man wasn't obviously drunk, and he walked in like there was nothing going on. I can't speak to what might have happened to him once he left my line of sight, but what a sight it was.

I don't usually get too uptight about attire, but THIS one takes the cake! Surely, somebody reported this to the Maitre 'd and the slob was asked to leave. Let's hope so, anyway.

I'll dispute that one...hubby and I sat at our dinner table with a LOVELY couple that were cruising veterans, and she sported short shorts the first night, a tank top the next night with shorts, I can't remember formal night attire(but hubby and I felt overdressed), and then the final night, guess what...short shorts...and flip flops. Her husband wasn't much better.

I may be out of line and yes the person without a shirt or a tanktop should not be allowed to enter. On the other hand Carnival's standards for food seems to have lowered. My waiter attempted 3 times to get me a medium rare piece of meat. I asked him to please stop bringing me more, he kept trying and I felt for him, but enough was enough. If their standards are getting lower why shouldn't our attire?

on the first night, one can come to the dining room in shorts as sometimes not everyone has their luggage delivered yet....

 

however, in reference to no shirt, NEVER is this appropriate!!

Wow - It's hard to believe they'd let someone in shorts and no shirt in the dining room. Not that I am doubting the person writing the review, I'm not, It just amazes me that Carnival would let it go on. I am not a snob, and I don't really care if someone wears shorts in the dining room, as long as they have on a shirt as well. I would never wear shorts for dinner, or jeans either. One of the things I enjoy most about going on a cruise is the whole dressing up thing. I don't get a chance to get all dolled up much so I love it on a cruise!
