cambridgegirl Posted August 5, 2022 #1 Share Posted August 5, 2022 Is it possible to walk into the city from the cruise terminal or are there taxis nearby? We wanted to have a wander around the city when we stop there but not interested in any of the RC tours that are offered. Anyone been recently with any recommendations for a short walk and somewhere interesting to eat?

Outside the terminal follow the green line painted on the road for about 10 mins. You get to a white tented area next to the seaman’s mission. The shuttle takes you to the port gates where you literally walk through a gate in the fence. I suggest you take a pic 🤳 of the gate as it’s easy to miss on the way back. Once outside turn right and walk past the cathedral to the old harbour where there are several restaurants Edited August 5, 2022 by little britain
edinburgher Posted August 6, 2022 #3 Share Posted August 6, 2022 (edited) Your ship may well run shuttle buses which drop off very close to the Vieux port. Otherwise read port info websites such as whatsinport and others. Better still, Marseille has been extensively covered on previous threads and simply reading them will give you much information about getting into the city from the port. And do read these previous threads, which I recmmend you do as not everyone wants to give the same info over and over each time a FAQ is asked. In addition go to the usual tourist info and tripadvisor websites and any other sites which appear when you search eg ??? tourist info. And the official Marseille Touris Info website has a wealth of info for getting around, sights etc. Click on the FR button on the upper right corner and select the english version. The more you read the more options you will have and you can then decide which which ones actually appeal to you personally. Finding previous threads is very easy. Go to this FRANCE PORTS forum, but not to any individual thread. Log in Just under your username you will see an empty SEARCH BOX, Input the name of MARSEILLE (and perhaps also MARSEILLES the next time) as there are two spellings commonly used. click ON THIS FORUM from the dropdown under the search box. Hit the little magnifying glass and all previous threads with that name will appear in the results ready for you to read. Repeat the process for other individual ports (on the correct forum if they are in eg italy or France or wherever) You can learn a huge amount just by reading previous threads and they will help you decide how to spend your day. i would also advise sites such as Tripadvisor for restaurant/dining options. Last time we visited (Sept 2019) almost everry restaurant alongside the Vieux Port had become a pizzerria. It is also very touristy there and I suspect you would get better value and a better meal a few streets back from it. And Tripadvisor too.
