Upstate has a love/hate relationship with NYC. Most upstaters I know like the culture the city has to offer. They like the tourism dollars they bring when they visit. What they don't like is having city people regard upstaters as rubes and hicks and try to tell them how to live. It's not too different from how people in Illinois regard Chicago.

 

"Upstate NY" is an interesting description. Some people use it to refer to everything north of White Plains. Yet I have friends from northern NY who think Albany is "downstate." And don't even ask about Syracuse, Rochester and Buffalo.

No. They stay busy at this bar. They don’t have time for that. I just happened to be standing at the end and the two end spots opened up so I slid into one.

They tried to put me in a shared table again. I know I’m not selecting that shared table option. They must be trying to force it on solos. 
 

Not just solos.  The last time we sailed the breakfast/brunch always stuck us at shared tables even though that was never what I wanted.  We did meet a nice couple the first day that we saw around the ship a number of times and conversed with.

The couches are full. It’s standing room only in this waiting area. I don’t know what the deal is i see multiple empty tables on this side alone. Maybe more on the other side

I could’ve had another alchemy drink. I made sure I was on time because last night the guy looked at his watch and was like “well I guess it’s okay” when I showed up 8 minutes late for the steakhouse.

They’ve seated a few parties. I’m still waiting.

 

Two ladies said a kid who had a meltdown in here the other night is back.

Someone says Serenity was closed due to weather.

everyone is confused because the weather was good.

How are they choosing the order? A couple that just walked in got called. I’ve been sitting here 20 minutes

I think I’m being sent to the back of the line because I’m solo. It’s just me and one other couple waiting. Several

Couples who came in after me got seated

If they get seated and it’s just me here. I’m next. They have a line down the stairs. Probably 8pm people. Those people aren’t getting seated ahead of me.

She came over to a cabinet by me and I asked how the seating was going. She said she’s working on it. I said we’re 30 minutes late. She said 30 minutes? Yeah I had a 7:30 reservation. She said I will seat you now.
