Colon??

We will be arriving in Colon on November 23.  I have not read very many good thing about this port.  I really prefer not to take a ship excursion, but have not found many alternatives.  I have been through the canal before and kayaked at Gatun Lake.  That was before the Agua Clara locks opened. Is it possible to get a taxi at the port and go to the locks and maybe see the Bridge of the Atlantic?  Is there anything else nearby that would be worth a visit and would be safe?

Are you on a full or partial transit or just stopping at Colon as a port?

Just stopping in Colon as a port. WE will be in port from 9 AM- 7 PM.

Going to the new Agua Clara Locks and a drive over the new bridge should be doable.  There were many taxi drivers available.  Just agree on what you will pay beforehand and make sure the driver has sufficient English skills.  The only "nearby" points of interest would be Ft. San Lorenzo or Portobelo, both of those are some distance away.
