doones2 Posted October 24, 2022 #1 Share Posted October 24, 2022 We will be arriving in Genoa on a Sunday. Will most businesses be open or closed? Also on any other day, do businesses close for lunch? Thanks for any info. This will be our first visit to the Mediterranean.
Rare Host Bonjour Posted November 2, 2022 #2 Share Posted November 2, 2022 Just about anywhere in Italy is challenging (if not closed, shorter or reduced hours) on a Sunday, but with that said, as Genoa is a port city and not a small provincial town, you'll be able to find somewhere to eat lunch. And yes, on regular business days, it's likely most businesses will close for lunch in the afternoon. Small independently owned shops will almost certainly be closed, but any large franchise type operation may be open for limited hours. If there's any place you have an eye on checking out, I would google in advance to see whether or not it will be open. Enjoy your Med Cruise, it's going to be amazing 😎
lisiamc Posted November 4, 2022 #3 Share Posted November 4, 2022 (edited) Genoa is quite a large city, and some shops, like supermarkets or pharmacies, are open throughout the day, even on a Sunday. Restaurants are more likely to be open on a Sunday than a Monday, and so are museums. As Host Bonjour says, other shops, especially smaller ones, will be closed all day on Sunday, and some might be open in the morning on a Sunday but closed in the afternoon. Smaller shops are are also very likely to be closed from 1pm to 4pm during the week. Edited November 4, 2022 by lisiamc
xcell Posted December 18, 2022 #4 Share Posted December 18, 2022 If it is the same Sunday (Christmas Day), I don't expect much to be open...what to do...

If it’s Christmas, you could go for a walk around town, or just declare an honorary sea day.
Rare Hlitner Posted December 19, 2022 #6 Share Posted December 19, 2022 Not sure why a tourist would choose to be in Italy on Christmas Day but most things will be closed. And it will not be much better on Monday the 26th which is also a National Holiday. I agree with the suggestion of just taking a walk (if it is not too cold). Some decent restaurants might be open and serving a special Xmas menu and you might want to contact your hotel (in advance) and ask about options (and reservations). Looking online it seems that the Aquarium is open. If so, it is a decent place to visit and one of the best aquariums in Europe. Hank
