KeroTravel Posted October 28, 2022 #1 Share Posted October 28, 2022 Hello fellow Canucks, Has anyone ever purchased gift cards for Royal Caribbean? The information I'm finding on line seems a little all over the place before I call to inquire I wanted to check here first. Can the gift cards be purchased using a CAD credit card or debit card? Can they be used as OBC (to be pre-loaded to account before sailing)? I wanted to gift some to a friend going on a cruise, but won't do so if: 1. I can't buy them and 2. She won't be able to use them as OBC. Any advice/experience would be most helpful.
Fouremco Posted October 28, 2022 #2 Share Posted October 28, 2022 According to this Royal Caribbean webpage, they are only available for US residents: https://www.royalcaribbeancertificates.com There are also some quite restrictive terms and conditions. Unfortunately, it looks like you might have to gift your friend in some other manner.

We normally cruise on Celebrity (yes I know it's a technically a different company) and can purchase OBC in CAD funds. Typically they have a really good exchange rate. The only drawback is you can't use it until you're onboard, but it is fully refundable if we don't use it up. Not that DW has ever let that happen. 🤪

We normally cruise Celebrity or HAL and have regularly purchased OBC using CAD funds. For a number of years, the exchange rate was so good that pre cruise we'd buy several thousand dollars worth of OBC that we would cash in at the end of the cruise to have USD for our next visit to the US. KeroTravel Posted November 1, 2022 Author #5 Share Posted November 1, 2022 Seems like I may have to call them. Seems silly, and unfair, that it isn't an available option for us non US residents
