Iona - afternoon tea

We found it a blessing that the MDR afternoon tea was missing last time as it had previously been so appalling each time….. and we were, perhaps foolishly, previously of the “let’s give it another go, it can’t be that bad again…” mindset. Just very cheap tasting fayre that tasted synthetic, thrown together with a focus on bland carbs rather than anything remotely special. You can get more flavoursome sandwiches at a funeral. But the scones were pleasant.

P&O just have no idea what a proper afternoon tea really is, and poor sandwiches, overly sweet but dry cakes and the like are not it. Or maybe they are of the opinion that a lot of rubbish on a tiered stand and folk will think it’s sophisticated enough for afternoon tea. But at least they can get things right in other areas.
