Feasibility of Arranging Local Day Tours on arrival

We are due to call at Golfito, Quepos, and Puerto Caldera on our Dec cruise, and definitely want to see some of the local countryside, flora and fauna in these three ports. We normally avoid Cruise ship tours, and do our own thing with local operators or taxis on arrival. Never been to Costa Rica before. Is this feasible at these three ports, or are we likely to find ourselves stuck in port if we haven’t pre arranged things? Any advice gratefully received, thank you.
